When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Some roasted red chili pepper and olives to the bright cassis and red plum characters on the nose with a hint of dark chocolate. Juicy and a tad sweet-and-sour with a medium body, showing some round tannins and berries. Well-balanced and drinkable even though there is not a lot of depth on the center-palate. Open to enjoy now. RP96+96+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2023
Loaded with scents of blueberries, black cherries and cassis underpinned by a framework of cedary oak, DVO’s 2020 Red Wine is a 300-case blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Merlot aged 23 months in 60% new French oak. Full-bodied without being overly high octane, it shows admirable suppleness and ripe tannins. A blend of fruit from Oakville and Coombsville, it’s almost creamy-rich in texture on the palate, then lingers elegantly on the lengthy finish. Nicely done! (Joe Czerwinski)

Juicy, fresh and forward, with brambly structure carrying blackberry and mulberry fruit flavors as well as lively licorice and roasted apple wood notes. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2036. 300 cases made. (James Molesworth)

This Cab Sauv includes small percentages of Petit Verdot, Merlot, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Malbec in the mix. The result is a balanced wine offering notes of blueberry, raspberry and toasted wood, cemented together by a tacky tannic texture, modest acidity and balanced alcohol. (Stacy Briscoe)

This balanced, albeit simple, Pinot Noir incorporates 16% Petite Sirah in the mix. It offers notes of fresh red cherries, wild strawberries and wood. (Stacy Briscoe)
