When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Another stand out in this set of new releases, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is powerful and deep, but very much in the mid-weight style that defines the Peirson Meyer wines. Tobacco, cedar, smoke, leather and licorice add savoriness and nuance to this super-expressive Cabernet Sauvignon. This is an especially bright and elegant style for Kenefick Ranch.

This full-bodied wine offers a ripe fruit aroma that is generously shaded by tones of vanilla, nutmeg, cedar and smoke. It has a touch of tannins that strengthen the texture.

Aromas of blackberries, black truffles, burnt orange peel, forest floor and blueberries. Decadent. Full to medium body. The tannins are so tight and dense with super fine and caressing texture. An amazing, mesmerizing wine. Drinkable and glorious, but better after 2022.
RP100100 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2018
The 2016 IX Proprietary Red Estate is a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple, it comes strutting out of the glass with flamboyant Black Forest cake, blueberry compote and plum pudding notions plus hints of spice cake, unsmoked cigars, menthol, licorice and dusty soil and accented by wafts of tar and black tea. The palate is full-bodied yet incredibly poised and vibrant with amazing freshness and very fine-grained, very firm tannins. It possesses the most provocative earthy sparks, providing arresting depth to the very long, beautifully perfumed finish. Stunning.
VN97+97+ pts. - Vinous - Dec 2018
The 2016 IX Estate is a total knock-out. A wine of exceptional balance and harmony, the 2016 is stunning from the very first taste. Nothing really stands out. Instead, it is the wine’s sense of proportion that makes the most lasting impression. Seamless, layered and voluptuous to the core, the 2016 has so much to offer. Bright Pritchard Hill acids and minerality are felt on the persistent, beautifully sculpted finish.
SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2019
Lush and warm in feel, with gorgeous fig, black currant and dark plum fruit that rolls through in harmonious waves against a backdrop of loam, alder and smoldering cast iron notes. Not shy on power, latent cut and inner freshness, this just needs time to unwind fully. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2021 through 2038. 1,800 cases made. A very fresh cabernet with licorice, fresh herbs, freshly picked blackcurrants, oyster shell and crushed stones. Black oilve. Full body, vivid acidity and very structured tannins. Drinking beautifully now.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Jan 2019
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley contains 4% Petite Sirah and was aged for 16 months in new French (33%) and American (3%) oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes bounding out of the glass with lively crushed blackberries, cassis and warm plums notes with touches of cedar chest and pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm, grainy texture and loads of black fruit layers, finishing long and savory. 12,605 cases produced.

2016 / 750 ml.

Item #: 90241

RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Jul 2019
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Amoenus Cabernet Sauvignon delivers compelling earthy notions of truffles, mossy bark, iron ore and underbrush over a core of warm cassis, blackberry pie and grilled meats plus wafts of spice cake and dried herbs. Full-bodied, concentrated and oh-so-seductive, the generous flash maintains a firm backbone of grainy-textured tannins and just enough background acid, finishing long and multilayered. 240 cases were made.
