Always a red blend, the 2018 Collina is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc, and the balance Petit Verdot. This cuvée is always made in a more up-front, fresh, drinkable style compared to the Cabernet Sauvignon and Maya. Rich, mouth-coating currant, dark chocolate, dried herb, and graphite notes all emerge from this beauty, which is full-bodied and has a ripe, sexy texture, great tannins, and just an undeniably delicious style. The 2018 Collina Dalla Valle is a flat out gorgeous wine. Racy and sumptuous to the core, the 2018 captures all of the natural radiance of this eastern sector of Oakville. Soft contours and silky tannins make the 2018 an absolute delight to taste today. Readers will have a very hard time finding a Napa Valley wine that delivers this much sheer pleasure for the money.
Dalla Valle’s 2018 Collina features a deep garnet-purple color, sashaying out of the glass with flamboyant scents of freshly crushed black currants, Morello cherries and red currant jelly with hints of cinnamon stick, menthol and red roses. The full-bodied palate is packed with black and red berry layers with loads of spicy sparks and a soft, velvety texture, finishing with a minty lift.

Napa Valley is California's -- and America's -- most famous and celebrated wine district. Located north of San Francisco, Napa Valley is most famous for its world-class Cabernets and Chardonnays. The region's acclaim officially took off following a 1976 tasting in Paris when renowned judges chose a Napa Chardonnay and Cabernet over top French wines made from the same grapes.
Most wineries in the region produce either a Chardonnay or a Cabernet, and usually it's both. Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel are also grown with success in Napa Valley. Subtle and complex red with blackberry, black truffle, sweet tobacco and mahogany. Highlights of lavender and violets. Full-bodied and very tight with finesse and tension. Very polished, fine tannins. Long finish. Delicious already, but best after 2022. (James Suckling)
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Rubicon is based on a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It’s a more backward, closed wine, offering classy notes of crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, freshly crushed stone, and cedar. More medium to full-bodied and elegant, I’d like to see a touch more density and richness on the mid-palate, but it’s beautifully balanced, has gorgeous tannins, integrated acidity, and outstanding length on the finish. Give this classic, impressive, old school beauty 4–5 years in the cellar and enjoy over the following 15–20. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Refined and elegantly structured, it offers notes of currant, cedar and espresso, the tannins thick and firm. The savory concentration has an Old World charm and restraint with well-integrated oak. Rock Block Series Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Magic Nights is laced with inky dark fruit, licorice, crème de cassis, chocolate, sweet spice and licorice. I would give the tannins a few years to soften, but there is a lot to like and to look forward to here. This is an especially potent expression of Stags Leap, and it works so well. Winemaker Chris Tynan draws fruit from across all the Lede estate parcels. As always, this series, known as “Rock Block” (with a name that changes each year) is especially luscious. (Antonio Galloni)
This is a robust, deeply concentrated wine, richly layered and densely textured in red fruit, crushed rock, sage and cedar. Grippy tannins reveal its youthful vigor and relative restraint that is not ready to rush out of the gate quite yet. Let the power deepen and develop further in the cellar and enjoy from 2028–2038. What a thrill it is to taste the 2018 Cariad again. Last year the 2018 was magnificent. It is all that this year too. Powerful and explosive, the 2018 is captivating from the very first taste. Healthy dollops of Cabernet Franc and Merlot add layers to this deep, wonderfully vibrant Napa Valley red. In a big morning tasting at Colgin spanning more than a dozen wines, the 2018 Cariad was a stand out. Superb.
Blended of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Cariad Proprietary Red Wine has a deep purple-black color and slips out of the glass with the most seductive black fruit preserves notions of crème de cassis, blueberry pie and baked plums plus hints of Indian spices, lavender, mocha and licorice with a waft of cardamom. Full-bodied, rich, opulent and spicy, it delivers a wonderfully powerful expression of this vintage with firm yet plush tannins, finishing very long and hedonic.
The 2018 Cariad isn’t far off and has a wealth of blue fruits, musky earth, spice, and floral notes as well as a deep, rich, layered style on the palate. As with all the 2018s here, the tannin quality is incredible, and it has a plush, sexy, already complex style that’s hard to resist. It’s going to evolve for 25+ years. The blend is 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot. (Jeb Dunnuck)
Incredible aromas of blackcurrants, licorice, blackberries. black mushrooms, crushed stones, cement and flowers. Full-bodied with wonderfully polished, refined tannins. So long. Great tannin integration. Goes on for minutes. Rich. Best in 2025, but already so amazing to drink now.
What a show of ripe, pure and unadorned fruit, with an immense core of cassis, warmed kirsch and black Mission fig paste flavors that glide through as they’re given center stage, while beautifully integrated alder and warm earth notes flow underneath. There’s serious drive for the long haul, with flickers of anise and violet darting in on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Coming mostly from the Soda Canyon region and 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon CJ has a big, ripe, fruit-driven nose of blue fruits, lots of peppery herbs and earth, medium to full-bodied richness, ripe tannins, and a great finish. A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain was aged for 22 months in oak barrels, 84% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it explodes from the glass with bombastic black currants, black cherries and boysenberries notes plus underlying hints of violets, dark chocolate and tobacco leaf. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a solid structure of firm, grainy tannins and tons of freshness, finishing long and fragrant. 3,997 cases were made.
Aromas of pine needles, asphalt, graphite and black fruit follow through to a full-bodied and chewy palate with so much tannin, giving this real Howell Mountain character. It goes on and one. Muscular and in need of time in the bottle to soften. Better after 2024.
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is a powerful, tightly wound wine that captures all the natural intensity of Howell Mountain. Blackberry jam, graphite, smoke ,iron and crushed rocks give this dark, massively tannic Cabernet a lot of character. Even after having been opened for several hours, the 2018 remains forbidding, with serious tannins that are going to require a good bit of cellaring before the wine becomes approachable.

The same blend as the 2017, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is another impressive, medium to full-bodied Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon from this team. Cassis, graphite, chalky minerality, and iron, as well as some classic Howell Mountain bouquet garni-like notes, all define the aromatics, and it’s balanced, has ripe tannins, and lots of minerality on the finish. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is a potent Howell Mountain wine. Crushed rocks, gravel, lavender, spice, black cherry, crème de cassis, and chocolate give this brooding Cabernet plenty of character. The 2014 Collina Dalla Valle is a relatively soft, open knit wine. There is lovely purity to the dark red cherry fruit, spice and mocha flavors. All the signatures of the estate are present, but in a relatively small-scaled style. I would prefer to drink the 2014 sooner rather than later given its mid-weight structure. The 2014 is two-thirds Cabernet Franc and one-third Cabernet Sauvignon, with a dollop of Petit Verdot.
