Where It's From

Region / Bordeaux

View more wines from Bordeaux

Bordeaux is known the world over for its exceptional wines, particularly red blends made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, among others. These Cabernets aren't typically the full-bodied Cabs you get from California, but rather medium-bodied wines that emanate elegance and sophistication.

You'll also find some refreshing Bordeaux whites and, of course, Bordeaux's famous dessert wine, Sauternes.

Country / France

View more wines from France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

Plenty of menthol, blackberry and blackcurrant aromas in this elegant, medium-weight Haut-Médoc that’s got as much freshness as ripeness and a long, clean, mineral and herbal finish. An incredibly food-flexible wine! Drink or hold.
WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2019
Well-integrated tannins give this wine a rich, velvet character that is underlined by the blackberry fruits. The aftertaste is dense, concentrated and rich. Drink from 2025.
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2019
The 2016 Cantemerle has developed beautifully with élevage. Pliant, silky and exceptionally balanced, the 2016 has the pedigree and complexity to allow for a number of years of very fine drinking. Moreover, the 2016 delivers serious flavor intensity without being at all heavy. Smoke, iron and cedar add character to a Haut-Médoc that has a lot to offer.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2019
Starts with a violet note but turns darker quickly, with dark currant and black cherry preserve flavors forming the core. Nice fresh tobacco and iron details carry the mouthwatering finish. Not big, but focused and tasty. Drink now through 2030. 33,333 cases made. (James Molesworth)

The 2016 La Branne has a lovely, generous and pure bouquet with blackberry, raspberry and tobacco aromas that just burst from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, smooth in the mouth with a touch of white pepper and clove towards the quite complex finish. What a superb Médoc. Tasted at the Oenoconseil tasting room in Bordeaux.

Brio de Cantenac Brown 2016 / 750 ml.

2016 / 750 ml.

Item #: 91547

JD8989 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 2/28/2019
The second wine of Cantenac Brown, the 2016 Brio de Cantenac is a solid, medium-bodied, elegant wine that’s very much in the style of the vintage with its elegant profile. Lots of Merlot-driven black cherry, violet, and tobacco notes flow to a medium-bodied 2016 that has light tannins and a clean, juicy finish. It’s already delicious, but I suspect it will keep for over a decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN8888 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2019
The 2016 BriO de Cantenac Brown is rich and dense in the glass, with generous dark fruit, chocolate, leather, licorice, smoke, tobacco and charcoal notes. This sumptuous, bold second wine from Cantenac Brown is a fine choice for drinking now and over the next few years. As with the Grand Vin, the BriO is a decidedly opulent wine. (Antonio Galloni)

Quite smoky with some coffee, this is quite a dry, firm wine, but there’s good cassis there, too, and it emerges slowly with aeration. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc. Better from 2021.

This has aromas of boysenberries and dark berries with a wealth of bracken and gently tarry aromas, too. The palate has a fresh, fleshy and quite concentrated feel with fine tannins that hold the finish long. A blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot. Try from 2023.
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2019
This estate, with its historic connections with the Swedish royal family, is now performing well. This latest vintage, with its rich tannins and dense flavors, has concentration as well as attractive black-fruit lusciousness. Drink this well-balanced wine from 2023.
