Barrel Sample. This wine shows the structure that will stand it in good stead as it develops made from 60-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon vines. Its dark tannins march with the developing black currant fruits. The wine will certainly age well. (Roger Voss)

Where It's From

Region / Bordeaux

View more wines from Bordeaux

Bordeaux is known the world over for its exceptional wines, particularly red blends made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, among others. These Cabernets aren't typically the full-bodied Cabs you get from California, but rather medium-bodied wines that emanate elegance and sophistication.

You'll also find some refreshing Bordeaux whites and, of course, Bordeaux's famous dessert wine, Sauternes.

Country / France

View more wines from France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

The 2020 Beaumont is fabulous in the way it marries power and finesse. Crushed red berry fruit, charcoal, dried flowers, spice and tobacco lend notable complexity. The 2020 has lost some of its youthful fruitiness, but none of its charm or pedigree. This is beautifully done. (Antonio Galloni)
JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, May 14, 2023
Aromas of ripe berries, licorice, cloves and nut shell with some earthy undertones. Medium body. It’s round and supple on the palate with dusty tannins and a dry, velvety finish. Try from 2025. (James Suckling)

The 2020 Château Beaumont is rock solid, with a great nose of ripe red and black fruits, spicy oak, and spring flowers. Medium-bodied, It has the pure, focused, structured style of the vintage as well as a great mid-palate and the balance to evolve for 10–12 years or more. (Jeb Dunnuck)

WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 1/1/2021
Barrel Sample. Fresh and with great black currant flavors, the wine is juicy and perfumed. Its potential is excellent, the tannins under all this fruitiness pointing the way to some fine aging. (Roger Voss)
JS92+92–93 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, May 27, 2021
Lots of blackberry, walnut, wet-earth and fresh-mushroom aromas and flavors. Full-bodied and layered. Very flavorful. Excellent.
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2022
The just-bottled 2020 D’Agassac has turned out very nicely, offering up aromas of sweet dark berries, cherries, loamy soil and spices. Medium-bodied, lively and nicely concentrated, with impressive depth and powdery structuring tannins that assert themselves on the finish, this is a strong effort. (William Kelley)

JD95+95–97 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/23/2021
Based on 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot, the Grand Vin 2020 Château Beychevelle is a stunner that does everything right, offering a monster bouquet of black and blue fruits as well as candied violets, incense, flowers, and toasty oak. A ripe, full-bodied, incredibly sexy wine in every sense, it has a great mid-palate, ripe, velvety tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. It’s one of the more up-front, exotic wines in the vintage and should be accessible with just short-term cellaring. (Jeb Dunnuck)
WE94+94–96 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 1/1/2021
Barrel Sample. The wine’s structure and serious tannins are, happily, balanced by the rich generosity of the fruit flavors. Together, the two elements of this very fine wine will allow it to develop with weight and concentration. (Roger Voss)
RP94+94–96 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 20th May 2021
Deep purple-black colored, the 2020 Beychevelle offers up vibrant notes of black raspberries, fresh black cherries and cassis, plus hints of wild sage, chocolate mint, rose hip tea and fallen leaves, with an exotic hint of Indian spices. The medium to full-bodied palate offers layers of crunchy black fruits with a firm, grainy texture and just enough freshness, finishing long and perfumed. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2022
Delivers vivid fruit, with an eye-catching beam of cassis, kirsch and plum sauce notes that flow through nicely, supported by a light brambly edge and a well-inlaid graphite spine. The finish is scored by violet and anise as the fruit lingers. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2027 through 2037. (James Molesworth)
JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, January 4, 2023
A very polished and refined 2020 with a medium body, integrated tannins and a pretty texture. Nice currant, light chocolate and cedar undertones. Fresh finish. Drink after 2026.

The most underrated wine in the Lafite stable these days has put in another strong performance with the 2020 Duhart-Milon, as this somewhat cooler, later-ripening site is well adapted to warmer vintages. Unfurling to reveal aromas of cassis, plums, cigar wrapper, loamy soil and violets, it’s medium to full-bodied, broad and layered, with polished tannins, terrific depth at the core and a long, sapid finish. This has a polished and attractive nose of cedar, kumquats, spiced pears and toffee apples. Creamy and deliciously spicy with a medium to full body. Everything in balance. Long, classy and delicious. Drink or hold.
WE93+93–95 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 1/1/2021
Barrel Sample. Already a finely perfumed wine, this has spice from the wood aging that will balance the ripe, kiwi and white fruit flavors. The wine’s fine acidity promises a fresh texture that will broaden with aging potential. (Roger Voss)

A plump and forward version, with salted butter and shortbread notes adding a caressing edge underneath Meyer lemon, white peach and honeysuckle notes. Crowd-pleasing in style. Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Drink now through 2024. 1,250 cases made, 100 cases imported. (James Molesworth)
