The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon MMXIX is composed of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant notes of redcurrant jelly, cassis and boysenberries, plus hints of cardamom, bouquet garni, red roses and lavender. Full-bodied, the palate is laden with vibrant black fruits accented by red fruit sparks, supported by firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and perfumed. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 2/16/2023
The finest wine I’ve tasted from this estate, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Malbec that spent 20 months in 80% new French oak. This medium to full-bodied, round, incredibly sexy beauty offers loads of red and blue fruits, some spice, graphite, loamy earth, and tobacco nuances, supple tannins, plenty of mid-palate flesh, and a great finish. A quintessential 2019, it can be drunk any time over the coming 15–20 years.

Quite a dark nose, with lots of cassis, incense, dark chocolate, meatiness and smoke. Concentrated and tight on the palate, packed with juicy fruit and dusty tannins. Impressively high-quality tannins, delivered in big quantity. Extremely well-judged balance between ripeness and freshness. Lingering finish. 98% cabernet sauvignon and 2% malbec. Drink or hold.

District / Napa Valley

Napa Valley is California's -- and America's -- most famous and celebrated wine district. Located north of San Francisco, Napa Valley is most famous for its world-class Cabernets and Chardonnays. The region's acclaim officially took off following a 1976 tasting in Paris when renowned judges chose a Napa Chardonnay and Cabernet over top French wines made from the same grapes.

Most wineries in the region produce either a Chardonnay or a Cabernet, and usually it's both. Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel are also grown with success in Napa Valley. You'll likely recognize the names of some of the viticultural areas within Napa Valley, including St. Helena, Stag's Leap and Carneros.

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Black fruit, cassis, dried herbs, cedar and dried spices on the nose. It’s full-bodied with firm tannins. Structured with a solid core of dark fruit on the center-palate and an intense finish. Drink from 2024. (James Suckling)
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2022
Delivers a big gush of plum sauce, blackberry preserves and melted black licorice, with a flicker of bramble tucked in to provide some energy. Lush and toasty through the finish, with the fruit holding the upper hand throughout. Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Drink now through 2032. 450 cases made. (James Molesworth)
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
Cedary, almost bourbon-like wood, blueberries, cherries and vanilla cream all appear on the nose of the 2019 G by Alex Guarachi, a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Malbec. Full-bodied, creamy and plush, it’s almost ridiculous how soft and pillowy the tannins are. Drink it over the next five to eight years. (Joe Czerwinski)
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2022
This wine is a great value for the quality, a blend of 88% estate Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% estate Malbec from the producer’s high-elevation site. Aged two years in all French oak, it is smooth, supple and rich in mountain berry, with additions of toasted oak and tobacco. This wine is approachable in its youth. (Virginie Boone)
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/10/2022
Including 10% Malbec, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon G By Alex Guarachi sports a dense ruby/plum color to go with a spicy, savory nose of ripe black cherries, plums, chocolate, and tobacco. With moderate acidity, full-bodied richness, and loads of texture, this hedonistic bomb of a wine should evolve for 8–10 years if properly stored. (Jeb Dunnuck)

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 21st Jul 2022
The 2019 Bin 600 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. The Cabernet Sauvignon is from a selection of vineyards across Napa, “and there is a little it of Sonoma in there as well,” says Peter Gago. The Shiraz is from the Paso Robles vineyard; it’s a 78/22 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. The fruit heres is so sweet and plush—there is a distinct red berry character that settles and plumes on the mid-palate. Texturally, it is supple, silky and almost plump. 2019 was generally mild and good, and it has produced a suite of wines that are luscious and opulent. The tannins are the framework that drags the fruit back from the edge and brings balance and form to the wine. Smart. (Erin Larkin)
WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2022
Sourcing 83% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Napa Valley and 17% Shiraz from Paso Robles, this imaginative blend is structured and meaty, showing notes of cigar box, toasted oak and wild game. Red fruit-dominant, it unfurls layers of cassis and red cherry with ease, finishing in creamy mocha. (Virginie Boone)

This is another stunning vintage of this small-production wine, the result of a partnership between Winemaker Maayan Koschitzky and wine growers Miguel Luna and Pete Richmond. Ageable and structured, it opens in dark, brooding tannin, oak and sage, with a thickness to the palate. Notes of crushed rock and iron complement layers of cassis and black cherry. (Virginie Boone)

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is absolutely gorgeous. Succulent red cherry, red plum, mocha, spice and leather are front and center. Soft contours and silky plush tannins give the 2019 its tremendous immediacy and overall appeal. The 2019 is a superb wine in its peer group.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2022
Dark, with a flicker of charcoal weaving amid steeped plum, loganberry, black currant and boysenberry fruit flavors. Features flashes of sweet bay leaf and licorice root that underline the briary finish, which has good energy. Best from 2023 through 2034. 40,000 cases made. (James Molesworth)
JD91+91–93 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/27/2021
A year-in, year-out winner, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley should easily be an outstanding wine capable of evolving for two decades or so. Deep ruby/purple, with classy notes of cassis, blackberries, green tobacco, cedary herbs, and flowers, it’s medium to full-bodied and has a wonderfully elegant, seamless texture, supple tannins, and outstanding length. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP91+91–93 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 18th Mar 2021
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec. It is due to age in oak for 18 months, in 48% new (58% French, 42% American) and 52% two-year-old French and American oak barrels. Deep garnet-purple in color, it rolls effortlessly out of the glass with beautifully pure notes of fresh black plums, black cherries and crushed blackcurrants plus hints of cinnamon stick, tobacco leaf and charcoal. Medium to full-bodied, the palate hits the ground running with expressive black fruits and soft, supple tannins, lifted by just enough freshness and finishing pleasantly savory. 40,000 are due to be made.
VN90+90–93 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) has terrific energy to play off a core of rich Napa Valley fruit. Red cherry, iron, menthol, licorice and pretty floral accents all grace this gorgeous entry-level offering. The 2019 is the first vintage that includes fruit from Red Hen, a site in Oak Knoll that formerly belonged to Bart and Daphne Aruajo. Bright red fruit and lifted floral notes frame the chiseled finish nicely.

The fruit for the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 704 is from across Napa Valley, and the classy fruit is shaped by French oak (40% new) and firm tannins through the finish. This is supple and sweet and shows blood plum, raspberry, red licorice and even cocoa. The wine is long and lingering and shapely. Sophisticated. (Erin Larkin)

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve takes on a more luxurious sheen and is forward with toasted bourbon spice, cedar, menthol, and cassis. Full-bodied, with ripeness throughout, notes of juicy blackberry, turned earth, and mocha fill the palate. It’s a bolder, more toasty style to drink over the next 4–6 years. (Audrey Frick)
WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2023
Ultraripe but still nice and dry, this gentle giant feels soft and velvety while cradling late-picked plums, blackberries and oak spices in soft tannins. Best now–2028. (Jim Gordon)
SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 22, 2022
Overtly toasted, though this has a good core of plum and blackberry puree behind that, with violet and anise notes trying to peak through on the graphite-edged finish. For fans of the style. Drink now through 2025. 1,940 cases made. (James Molesworth)

Aromas of blackcurrants, black licorice, thyme and violets. Full-bodied with silky, taught tannins. Juicy and vibrant on the palate with well-balanced acidity. Berry flavors. Great tension here. This has a lovely life ahead of it. Best after 2026.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2022
Very solid, with singed alder and warm earth accents running along the edges of a core featuring steeped plum, boysenberry and blackberry compote. Not shy with the fruit but has the spine for balance. Best from 2023 through 2034. 5,418 cases made. (James Molesworth)

The full-bodied 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon The Leap Estate Grown includes 5% Petite Sirah, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec. Gentle herbal notes suggestive of thyme accent cassis and blackberries on the nose, while the finish is marked by crispness, with mouthwatering acids and dusty tannins. It should be reasonably long-lived. (Joe Czerwinski)

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon RBS Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard is Clone 337, matured 18 months in 100% new Darnajou and Taransaud barrels. Marked on the nose by red berries, cherries and cedar, plus delicate cinnamon and clove shadings, this is a plush, concentrated full-bodied wine with a core of firmness to it and a long, lingering finish, both positive signs for aging. It’s one of the more approachable Schrader wines this vintage, but it should easily go another two decades. (Joe Czerwinski)
JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 12/21/2021
Lots of violets, flowery incense, cassis, and spice notes emerge from the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard RBS, a full-bodied, silky, elegant 2019 that shines just as much for its purity and balance as its richness and depth. Possessing good acidity, a lively, vibrant mouthfeel, supple tannins, and a great finish, it has plenty of up-front appeal yet should easily evolve for a solid 20 years if properly stored. (Jeb Dunnuck)
JS9797 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, September 21, 2022
Racy, dark nose with pulpy character. Dried lychee, lavender and sandalwood. This is quite juicy, ample and almost a bit ethereal, despite the color and high alcohol. There is a fine twist of salinity on the palate that runs smoothly with lots of purple flowers. Really immaculate. Almost soft texture. Drink or hold.
SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2022
Gushes with pure violet, plum and cassis notes, all flecked with hints of black tea, anise and sassafras. Driven, with a graphite underpinning providing a spine that stays in the background as the fruit stretches out. Approachable already but no rush at all. Drink now through 2038. 1,500 cases made. The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Poetry is a blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it sails out of the glass with energetic scents of fresh blackcurrants, black cherries and black raspberries, plus hints of candied violets, dark chocolate, clove oil and fragrant earth. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is exquisitely fine-knitted with tons of graceful nuances intertwined with the many shades of black fruits, accented by SO MANY minerals, finishing epically long and staggeringly gorgeous. WOW! (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
WE9898 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2022
This is a beautiful blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot, and 3% Merlot. With a bright, inviting nose of violet and rose, it delves into a palate of refined tension and supple tannin. The core of red fruit is cohesive and earthy, with notes of dried herb, graphite and a hint of cigar. Enjoy best from 2029–2039. (Virginie Boone)
JD97+97+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/10/2022
Lastly, the flagship is the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Poetry, which checks in as 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, and 4% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that’s all from a site in Stags Leap. Lots of pure crème de cassis, ripe black raspberries, flowers, spice box, and chalky minerality emerge on the nose, and it hits the palate with a refined, full-bodied, incredibly polished style that brings serious intensity, yet with no sensation of weight or heaviness. It’s brilliant today, but it really deserves 3–4 years of bottle age, and as with all of the wines here, it is going to evolve gracefully for 20+ years. 1471 cases. (Jeb Dunnuck)

The 2021 Proprietary Blend Blacktail is also terrific. It’s a beautifully layered red to drink over the coming 10–15 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

A delicious red with deep dark fruit, showing softness and freshness at the same time. It’s full and layered with round, creamy tannins and a mushroom, bark and dark fruit-led center palate. Chewy at the end with some attractive, velvety-textured tannins. Give it a year or two to soften. Try after 2025. (James Suckling)
