This Valpolicella is unique in that a portion of the wine has been dried (like in Amarone) for a little over a month. This blend of fresh and dried immediately shows on the palate with aromas of tart red cherries and then dried black cherries mixed with sweet and savory spices, dried flowers and fresh tobacco. The palate mirrors the nose and is lush but pops with vibrant acidity on the finish. (Jeff Porter)
Peppery wild berry and lavender tones wafts up from the 2019 Valpolicella Classico Superiore L’lmperfetto. It’s soft-textured and pure in style, with mineral-tinged red fruits and savory herbal rotes that form toward the close. The 2019 finishes with medium length, classically dry and with a salty flourish. The l’lmperfetto makes for a perfect Valpolicella to bring to the dinner table. (Eric Guido)

Producer Notes
Where It's From
Region / Veneto
Veneto, in northeastern Italy, is home to some of the most celebrated Italian wines, including Amarone red wines. The cities Verona and Venice fall within Veneto, and the areas surrounding Verona in western Veneto is where you'll find Amarone and Valpolicella production. Western Veneto also produces some fantastic white wines, like Soave. Meanwhile, the eastern part of Veneto has something worth celebrating, as well, as that's where Prosecco comes from.
Country / Italy
Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.
Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

Rosso Verona

This historic wine of the Veneto region, first made in 1964, is still a classic today. The wine is rich and luscious, with ripe notes of black plum, cherry and blackberry. These fruits are supported by herbal and deep earthy notes. The palate is sumptuous, rich and balances the earth and fruit notes with near perfection. The wine is well structured and overdelivers. (Jeff Porter)

Vibrant nose with spiced cherries, plums, dried herbs, cloves and some bark. It’s medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and juicy cherries. Fruity and caressing mouth-feel, before a medium finish. Drink now. (James Suckling)
The dark and dusty 2019 Valpolicella Superiore opens with notes of dried strawberries, sage and crushed stone. This is soft textured and perfumed with inner violet and lavender tones over a core of black currants, all lifted by cooling acidity. It tapers off lightly structured while leaving purple-tinged florals and a hint of bitter cocoa. (Eric Guido)

The quest is for fresher and drier here, as with many contemporary producers. Kirsch, leather, pine and a waft of dried mushroom to tatami straw. This has a mid-weighted feel and is refreshingly savory, yet without, perhaps, the density, sap and prerequisite freshness of top examples. Some oseleta here, serving as a bulwark against the encroaching heat. I’d like to see this in a few more years when my score may come up a notch. Drink or hold. (Ned Goodwin MW)
Subtle and savory on the nose, offering flavors of plump cherry and medicinal herbs underscored by loamy earth and smoke notes on the palate. This is medium- to full-bodied and chewy, with a fresh, lightly spiced finish. Corvina, Rondinella, Corvinone and Oseleta. Drink now through 2029. 25,000 cases made, 7,000 cases imported. Aromas of plum and black cherry that give way to notes of black tea, violet and savory spices. The palate is well-balanced, highlighting both the fruit and non-fruit flavors equally. Black and red berries share the stage with notes of espresso, anise, dried leaf and limestone. Fine tannins and meaningful acidity make this wine a standout. (Jeff Porter)
The Allegrini 2019 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico reverts to a classic profile for air-dried fruit made with appassimento. There are distant whiffs of candied cherry that give more lift and intensity to the bouquet that is otherwise characterized by heavier tones of black fruit, candied cherry, red licorice and sweet earth or potting soil. It finishes with a well-balanced full-bodied style (and a noticeable 16% alcohol content). The traditional blend is 45% Corvina Veronese, 45% Corvinone, 5% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta, and 100,000 bottles were released. (Monica Larner)
Elegant and balanced, medium-bodied and harmonious, this Amarone offers ripe black and red cherry fruit and a subtle minerally underpinning of smoke and loamy earth. Reveals hints of fig cake, ground anise and dried thyme, which add complexity and linger on the refined finish. Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta. Drink now through 2034. 12,083 cases made, 4,117 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)

Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore
2019 / 750 ml.
A lovely mix of red berries, bright orange peel and spicy cedar on the nose, following through to a full, round and silky palate with very fine tannins that are well integrated into the texture. Lots of flavor and good length. Hard not to settle down to a glass or two of this. Sustainable. Drink now. (James Suckling)
An elegant red, medium-bodied and fresh, with light, fine tannins framing a juicy range of sun-dried cherry and cranberry fruit, red licorice, eucalyptus and spiced orange peel notes that linger on the finish. Corvina, Rondinella and Corvinone. Drink now through 2029. 30,000 cases made, 7,000 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
This wine has a beautiful balance between fruit and non-fruit aromas from the start. Aromas of wild plums, dried leaves and fresh flowers each share the moment in the glass. The palate is soft and fruit-forward, highlighting black cherry flavors at the core of the palate. This fruitiness is supported by notes of turned earth and Dutch-process cocoa on the finish.
