Succulent dark cherry, tobacco, spice, cedar and leather flesh out in the 2016 Zinfandel Oakley Road Vineyard. Expressive aromatics give the wine shape and expansiveness that is matched by the raciness of the sweet, pliant fruit. Exuberant and forward, with terrific depth and fine balance, the Zinfandel is a winner from Joel Peterson.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jun 2018
From vines planted in the 1890s, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Zinfandel Oakley Road Vineyard rocks up with an incredibly spicy nose of cloves, cinnamon stick and anise over a core of prunes, raisin cake and sandalwood with a waft of potpourri. Medium to full-bodied, the palate explodes with berry preserves and exotic spices notes, with a lively line and chewy tannins, finishing with lingering dried fruit nuances. 150 cases produced.

Ridge Lytton Springs

2020 / 750 ml.

JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, October 5, 2022
This has lots of horizontal tannins that provide fine muscle and form. It’s medium- to full-bodied with freshness and brightness. Red berries, crushed cloves and other spices. Grapey, for a better word. Sophisticated. Chewy, Needs time to soften. Zinfandel with petite sirah and carignan. Drinkable now, but better with two or three years of bottle age.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2023
Deeply structured and showing simmering potency, this red reveals blackberry and currant flavors highlighted by savory dill and white pepper accents. Hands off this one for now. Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Carignane. Best from 2024 through 2032. 6,700 cases made. (Tim Fish)

The 2018 Zinfandel Bedrock Vineyard is a rich, potent wine endowed with real breadth and intensity. The natural weight of this Sonoma Valley site comes through loud and clear. This is a decidedly big, brawny Zinfandel that will appeal most to readers who like bold, larger-scaled wines. (Antonio Galloni)

Ridge Paso Robles Zinfandel

Benito Dusi Ranch
2021 / 750 ml.

JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 10/24/2023
The 2021 Zinfandel Paso Robles is all varietal and comes from the Benito Dusi Ranch in Paso Robles. It’s more medium-bodied and elegant, with classic Zinfandel notes of red and black plums, peppery herbs, cigar smoke, and sweet spices. I love its forward, seamless texture, and it has soft tannins as well as flawless balance. It’s another gorgeous 2021 from this team with so much to love. Enjoy bottles over the coming decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)

VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2023
The 2021 Zinfandel Pagani Ranch is a wine of tremendous stature. Vertical and composed in bearing, the 2021 has a ton to offer, but is also a bit reserved today. Time in the glass brings out a mesmerizing range of red/purplish fruit, spice, cedar, new leather, tobacco, mocha and dried flowers. Pagani Ranch remains a beacon for Sonoma County Zinfandel-based field blends. This is a fine rendition. (Antonio Galloni)
WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2023
Vivid, focused raspberries and red currants light up the aroma of this well-balanced, elegant wine before cooked strawberries and red plums fill the palate. Light toasty, oaky accents of vanilla and chocolate lend a bit of extra interest. Best through 2033. (Jim Gordon)
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - May 31, 2024
Potent at the core, yet retains a sense of refinement, with multilayered flavors of black cherry, fruitcake spices and licorice that build richness and structure toward fine-grained tannins. Drink now through 2031. 7,300 cases made. (Tim Fish)

The 2021 Zinfandel Kirschenmann Vineyard is superb. In most vintages, the Kirschenmann can be a bit light, but in 2021 it offers a beguiling mix of its typical floral qualities, but with an extra kick of depth that holds everything together so well. Bright red berry fruit, rose petal, chalk, min and white pepper are some of the many notes that grace this striking Lodi Zinfandel from Turley. (Antonio Galloni)

Tips for Enjoying Your Zinfandel Wines

To get the most out of your Zinfandel wines, serve them at room temperature, around 65°F to 70°F, to best appreciate their robust flavors. Zinfandel pairs wonderfully with rich dishes such as barbecue ribs, grilled sausages, and hearty pastas. Its bold notes also complement spicy foods and aged cheeses. For an optimal experience, allow the wine to breathe for about 15-30 minutes before drinking. This enhances its unique characteristics and smooths out the tannins, making each sip more enjoyable.
