ST8989 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Nov/Dec 2007
Yellow-gold. Leesy peach, pear and floral honey aromas are complemented by vanilla bean and buttered toast qualities. Plump-verging-on-sweet, with broad tropical and orchard fruit flavors, soft acidity and a pliant texture. Delivers a deep impression of apricot nectar on the long, fleshy finish. Seriously packed with flavor and impressively seamless, but I wish that there were more nerve and vivacity. Fans of the type will likely rate this higher.
SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2008
Superrich and perhaps a tad sweet, with a mix of fig, melon, pineapple and butterscotch, ending with a rich, cloying aftertaste. Drink now

Slate, graphite, dried pear, almonds, crushed flowers and sage emerge from the 2013 Chardonnay Joy Road Vineyard. The flavor profile is quite a bit more floral and savory than the other Chardonnays in the range, with the fruit pushed a bit into the background. The Joy Road is the most subtle and layered of the Rivers-Marie Chardonnays. In many ways, it is the most evocative as well.

The 2014 Chardonnay Joy Road Vineyard is another powerful wine built on intensity, but it is also a bit narrow next to the other wines in the range. With time in the glass, the wine wine opens up nicely, releasing hints of lemon peel, white flowers and smoke. Readers should plan on giving the 2014 a good bit of air.

SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2018
Ripe and showy, featuring textbook Condrieu notes of apricot, nectarine, peach and quince that flow through. Shows fine detail and focus, with a mineral edge and flashes of honeysuckle and white ginger lending cut and drive on the finish. Drink now through 2021. 100 cases made, 25 cases imported. (James Molesworth)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Dec 2017
The 2016 Condrieu Domaine des Grands Amandiers was fermented and aged in a combination of concrete eggs and more traditional oak. With only 10% to 15% new oak, the ripe Viognier fruit shines, offering up hints of apricot and nasturtium blossom. Medium to full-bodied, with a rich, creamy-textured palate, the wine finishes long and supple, with no trace of bitterness. Drink it within its first 5 years.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - May 2018
Very light green-hued yellow. Penetrating aromas of fresh citrus and pit fruits are complicated by hints of chalky minerals, fennel and pungent flowers. Juicy and deeply concentrated but lively as well, offering sappy, mineral-laced pear nectar and Meyer lemon flavors that show superb clarity and back-end lift. The mineral and floral notes come back strong on the penetrating finish, which hangs on with outstanding focus and persistence.

All shot Wente clone selection, this 2017 Chardonnay was aged for 19 months in barrel. It leaps from the glass with totally flamboyant notes of apricot tart, pineapple upside down cake and guava plus suggestions of honeycomb, allspice and candied ginger. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is electrically charged with tropical fruit and peachy layers with a laser focused line of crisp acidity, finishing very long and very spicy. 1250 cases made.

Green-tinged straw. High-pitched, mineral-driven aromas of fresh orchard fruits and lemon balm, plus a touch of white flowers in the background. Taut and distinctly lively on the palate, displaying densely packed orange, pear and nectarine flavors and a deeper note of honey that arrives with air. Finishes extremely long and precise, with resonating florality, good clarity and nervy, mineral lift.
JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, October 11, 2019
This has superbly fresh, apricot and white-peach aromas with gentle ginger and spice notes. Very floral and pure. The palate has a smooth array of peaches and apricots and super fresh and very discreet oak. Matured in demi-muid and concrete eggs. Succulent finish. Drink now.

White flowers, orange blossom, and hints of honeyed spice emerge from the 2018 Condrieu Les Grands Amandiers, another beautifully textured, medium-bodied, concentrated, yet straight and focused white. It’s balanced, soft, and forward, yet superb. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Very bright and pure in style, offering a mix of lemon curd, white peach, mirabelle plum and honeysuckle flavors that race along, with quinine and acacia notes gilding the finish. Drink now through 2026. 190 cases made, 56 cases imported. (James Molesworth)

The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc is juicy and lively, with pretty apple blossom and citrus fruit as well as hints of spice and minerality. It’s medium-bodied, juicy, and ready to go, yet should also have 4–5 years of longevity it you’re so inclined. (Jeb Dunnuck)

From calcareous soils, the Deidesheimer Riesling 2019 Kalkofen GG offers a clear, intense and aromatic bouquet with very fine aromas of lanolin, clove and vanilla from the oak vats. Full-bodied and enormously juicy on the palate, this is a generous and hedonistic but nevertheless subtle and refined Riesling that reveals ripe peach aromas and a fine, harmonious texture with a quiet, subtly juicy flow. The acidity is delicate and stimulatingly salty on the finish. A gorgeous wine tasted as a sample in May 2020. (Stephan Reinhardt)

RP97+97–98 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 13th May 2021
The intensely yellow colored 2020 Vouvray Le Mont Moelleux Première Trie is highly concentrated and complex on the nose that exhibits candied lemon zest and chutney aromas along with calcareous and walnut notes. Sweet (really sweet!) yet refined and elegant on the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich and generous yet piquant and firmly structured, greatly tensioned and salty 1ère Trie with pineapple flavors on the finely tannic and energetic, very sustainable finish. The 2020 has great aging potential, and I would never serve it too young. When will it really start to show its best? I don’t know, but you can’t go wrong to check the wine again after 10 years. Tasted as a final sample shortly before bottling in May 2021.
SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2021
Showy but still elegant and refined, this beautiful wine binds together yellow fig compote, glazed white peach and crystalized ginger notes with details of green tea, blanched almond, verbena and honeysuckle. Harmonious, with tremendous length, kept lively by vivid acidity. Drink now through 2040. 1,000 cases made. (Gillian Sciaretta)

JS9696 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 10, 2022
This Spatlese beams you up to Cloud 9, from where you have a wonderful view over the beautiful Mosel Valley. In spite of the considerable concentration, this is super-delicate and precise on the barely medium-bodied palate. Enormously long finish, where you barely feel the natural grape sweetness. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
RP95+95+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 25th Aug 2022
The 2020 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese is pure, clear and flinty on the concentrated nose that is reminiscent of a fresh fruit salad served on a slate plate on an early summer morning. Light, lush and highly finessed but seriously structured on the palate, this is a savory, very clear and elegant Sonnenuhr Spätlese with great precision and finesse and highly stimulating salinity and mouth-watering grip on the finish. The acidity is crystalline and very delicate, making this another great Mosel Spätlese from the 2020 vintage. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 37 21 in July 2022. (Stephan Reinhardt)

An energetic, well-built wine, with juicy peach, fleshy lychee and guava flavors set against fine mineral and racy acidity. Delivers a flash of ginger, which adds nice warmth to the zesty finish. Drink now through 2040. 160 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

This is two-thirds marsanne and one-third roussanne and it sees some demi-muid elevage. Very fresh, peach and pear aromas with a focused, ripe and juicy palate that wields glycerol and smooth fruit flesh. Long finish with pears, white peaches and melon. Very even. Drink or hold.
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - May 2020
Diaphanous gold. Expressive, mineral-tinged orchard and pit fruits on the highly perfumed nose, with floral and lemon curd nuances building in the glass. Shows very good depth as well as energy to the sappy, mineral-accented tangerine, Anjou pear and honey flavors, which steadily tighten up through the midpalate. The floral element comes back on the lively, focused finish, sweetened by a discreet honey accent.

The 2020 Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict captures all the magic of this iconic Sta. Rita Hills site. Ample, creamy and inviting, the 2020 is beautifully textured from start to finish. Apricot, lemon confit, white flowers, mint and marzipan build as the 2020 opens with a bit of air. Arnot-Roberts pulls fruit from the old-vine section of S&B, which was planted in 1971 with own-rooted vines.

From a vineyard owned by the Martinelli family and planted to Old Wente cuttings from Hyde Vineyard, this wine opens in a quiet nose of apple blossom and stone. Creamy, with substance and structure, it is floral, earthy and citrusy, with a taste of Key lime.

Classic notes of quince, crushed stone, honeysuckle, toasted bread, marzipan, and white flowers emerge from the 2019 Hermitage Blanc, a rich, full-bodied white with a dense mid-palate, flawless balance, and a great finish. This is head-turning stuff that has some up-front approachability, yet its tight, backward, concentrated core of fruit suggests that 2–3 years of bottle age are warranted, and it’s going to keep for 30 years or more. (Jeb Dunnuck)
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 28, 2022
A rich and showy wine, with singed brioche and salted butter notes leading off, followed by creamed yellow apple, mirabelle plum, melon and mango notes all mixed together. The finish features a buttery hint, with an echo of macadamia nut. One for the hedonist crowd. Marsanne and Roussanne. Drink now through 2024. 400 cases made, 5 cases imported. (James Molesworth)
