RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2021
The 2019 Ried Grassnitzberg Sauvignon Blanc is sometimes quite reductive and needs a lot of air, but it is precise, deep and clear. A second bottle was far better and a clearer Grassnitzberg representative, with a deep, cool and intensely fruity nose with mango notes and fine, smoky spice. Complex, elegant and fine on the palate, this is a full-bodied, juicy, ripe, savory, salty and grippy Sauvignon from Grassnitzberg that is tartly bitter on the finish and needs plenty of time to shine. The 2019 is not at all for young-wine or brand drinkers, but for collectors and connoisseurs of demanding wines. This is a tightly knit, taut, big wine that needs around 10 years before its journey really begins. 13% stated alcohol. Glass stopper. Tasted in Grafenegg in September 2021. (Stephan Reinhardt)

Smoky and flinty nose and, as it aerates, ever more grapefruit, then hay and seaweed. Concentrated with lively acidity and excellent minerality at the long, invigorating finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. Glass stopper. (James Suckling)

Starts off firm and juicy, with lemon, pineapple and pear flavors at the core, revealing notes of thyme, sea spray and green apple on the crisp finish. Drink now. 7,385 cases made. (MaryAnn Worobiec)

Rather weighty and definitely rich, this medium-bodied wine is laden with ripe pears, yellow peach syrup and toast, oaky accents on a soft, thick texture. A healthy addition of 22% Semillon accounts for the extra smoothness. (Jim Gordon)

Let this compact white open in the glass to reveal a fine, creamy range of apricot tarte, graphite, passion fruit coulis and Mediterranean scrub aromas and flavors, all underscored by a rich vein of smoky minerality. Racy, spiced finish. Best from 2024 through 2029. 600 cases made, 200 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
