JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, July 4, 2022
Plums, cherry stones, button mushrooms, white pepper and bark on the nose. Lemon and cardamom too. Medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and fine, powdery tannins. Savory. Drink now or hold.
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022
The 2020 Chiarti Classico Berardenga is a classic Fèlsina wine. It can be enjoyed now or cellared for 10–15 years. Classic Fèlsina savory, floral and tobacco accents play off a core of sweet Sangiovese fruit. This heady, strapping wine has a ton to offer. Time in the glass brings out gorgeous aromatic presence. (Antonio Galloni)
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2022
A charming, harmonious Chianti Classico, this exudes cherry, plum and thyme flavors, with elements of earth and mineral. Delivers dense tannins that exert influence on the finish, yet this remains balanced. Drink now through 2028. 22,000 cases made, 15,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/28/2023
A pure and open wine out of the gate, the 2020 Chianti Classico Berardenga is fresh with aromas of pine sap, anise, and cherry lozenge. Medium bodied with fine tannin and a modest but refreshing finish, this is a fantastic entry point for the Felsina range, for casual drinking with braised meats or Bolognese. Drink 2023–2028. JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, October 27, 2020
A red with plenty of ripe fruit, such as berries and cherries with some fresh-herb and lemon undertones. It’s medium-to full-bodied with bright fruit and fine tannins. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2020
The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Castello di Volpaia is an immensely rewarding, inviting wine. Juicy and racy, with no hard edges, the Riserva captures the allure of this warm, dry year. There is plenty to like in the 2017, starting with its depth and volume, I won’t be surprised if the Riserva turns out to be even better than this note suggests. Sweet red fruit, cedar and blood orange give the 2017 striking aromatic intensity and lift.
WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2020
Aromas of blue flower, spiced plum, new leather and sunbaked earth form the inviting nose on this pure Sangiovese. Made with organically farmed grapes, the smooth, savory palate doles out fleshy black cherry, baking spice and chopped mint alongside velvety tannins that give it a polished texture. Drink through 2025.
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th Mar 2021
If you have a platter of fatty porchetta and are looking for a worthy Tuscan wine for that party, look no further. Packaged in a black label, the Volpaia 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Castello di Volpaia (made with organic fruit) does a great job of showing purity and freshness in what was a challenging vintage for sure. This Riserva reveals delineated tones of cherry and dark berry with crushed limestone, blue flowers and some of the wild herbs and bramble that I often recognize in wines from this corner of Tuscany. I happily recommend it to all Sangiovese enthusiasts.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2021
Black currant and blackberry fruit defines this juicy, saturated red, with earth, cedar and tobacco adding accents. Finishes with a firm edge of tannins. Best from 2024 through 2040. 5,000 cases made, 3,500 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

Tre Monti Petrignone

Sangiovese Superiore Riserva
2018 / 750 ml.

Item #: 96342

WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2022
Aromas of violet, leather, resin and baked plum come to the forefront. It’s full-bodied and rounded, doling out fleshy blackberry, spiced blueberry, mocha and tobacco alongside enveloping, fine-grained tannins. Drink 2024–2028. (Kerin O’Keefe)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2021
The 2018 Sangiovese Superiore Riserva Petrigrone is reserved and coy in the glass, requiring coaxing to reveal its bouquet of smoky wild berries, licorice and crushed violets. This is a remarkably pure and lifted expression and impresses with its purity, as salty minerals mix with sour citrus, and grippy tannins build toward the close. It’s lightly structured and long, leaving black currants and inner florals to linger through its youthfully dry finish. (Eric Guido)

Ruffino Modus

JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, August 8, 2022
Aromas of crushed stones, dark berries and blueberries follow through to a medium to full body with creamy tannins and a medium-chewy finish. Chocolate at the end. Sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Two or three years of bottle age will bring this around nicely. Drink after 2024. (James Suckling)
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 9th Feb 2023
A blend of 44% Sangiovese, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot, the 2019 Modus is a very contemporary wine with soft extraction, lots of dark fruit and gentle tannins spread over a full-bodied style. You get sunshine and warm Tuscany in the glass, and although this blend of grapes tells you less about its territory, it gives you a generous glass to pair with grilled meats. Black cherry is followed by pencil shaving, sweet earth and barbecue spice. Only the 15% alcohol content is a little too much. (Monica Larner)

Ricasoli Brolio Chianti Classico Riserva

2020 / 750 ml.

Item #: 98312

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 21st Sep 2023
In the bottle with the black label, this is a very pretty, relatable and well-priced wine from Tuscany. Made with 100% Sangiovese, the 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva Brolio offers blueberry, plum and sweet spice thanks to 18 months of tonneaux aging. I especially appreciate the wine’s pronounced mineral signature that gives the wine a salty or savory side, which is perfect for food pairing. Some 75,000 bottles were made. (Monica Larner)
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2023
A savory version, this Chianti Classico delivers green olive, tomato leaf, iron and tobacco flavors centered on a core of macerated cherry fruit. Though lean and sinewy, this is also intense and focused, with a lingering aftertaste that feels the pull of both the savory and fruity sides. Best from 2025 through 2038. 6,250 cases made, 3,500 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

Carpineto Chianti Classico Riserva

2018 / 750 ml.

Item #: 73726

SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 28, 2023
This powerful red is hallmarked by forthcoming aromas of black cherry, blackberry, iron, tar and tobacco. Burly tannins prowl in the background as this unfurls to a long, detailed finish. Balanced in a broad-shouldered way. Best from 2024 through 2035. 16,600 cases made, 5,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 9th Feb 2023
From a cooler vintage coming after the scorching hot previous year, the 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva has soft contours and lots of bright fruit with cherry, cassis and wild plum. This is a medium-weight Sangiovese with bright acidity. It ends with earthy notes of iris and blue flower. Production is 200,000 bottles. (Monica Larner)
