Château Mazeris

2019 / 750 ml.

JS9090 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, February 20, 2022
Blueberries and sandalwood on the nose with some violets. Medium-to full-bodied with a solid tannin backbone and fresh fruit in the center-palate. Linear and racy. Better after 2023. (James Suckling)
SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2022
Solid, with flavors of cherry and currant preserves laced with tobacco, dark earth and judicious toast. There’s a nice sleek feel through the finish, with a whisper of chalky minerality at the end. Best from 2023 through 2028. 5,000 cases made, 1,000 cases imported. (James Molesworth)

This property is owned by the d’Arfeuille family who also have estates in Saint-Emilion. It is a ripe, juicy wine, deliciously fruity now, bringing out spice and solid tannins. Merlot and a blending of Cabernet Franc work well together in this wine that will be ready from 2025. (Roger Voss)
JS9090 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, February 20, 2022
Crushed raspberries, strawberries, dried herbs, red tea and licorice on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with firm, tea-like tannins. A little austere. Better in 2023. (James Suckling)

Skyside Claret

2016 / 750 ml.

WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2018
Mint, chocolate and cherry flavors intermingle in this dry, full-bodied and firmly tannic wine blended from Bordeaux grape varieties. It offers plenty of blackberry notes shaded by black pepper and smoke and will stand up to the juiciest protein you can order.

Aia Vecchia Lagone

2017 / 750 ml.

JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 6/24/2020
The more Merlot-dominated 2017 Lagone (there’s 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc) is a larger production cuvée and offers a wonderfully plump, fruit-forward style as well as notes of darker berry fruits, scorched earth, graphite, and a touch of leafy herbs. It’s balanced and medium-bodied, has ripe tannins, and is a beautiful wine, especially at the price. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Clos du Roy Fronsac

2018 / 750 ml.

JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, March 3, 2021
Blackberry, currant and chili with some walnut on the nose and palate. Medium to full body, round and juicy tannins with a creamy texture and a flavorful finish. Just a hint of smoke at the end. Drink after 2024.
RP91+91–93 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Apr 2019
The 2018 Clos du Roy is made up of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Deep garnet-purple colored, it delivers profound baked plums, boysenberry and cassis notes with touches of chocolate box, underbrush and truffles. Medium to full-bodied and packed with generous black fruits, it has a velvety texture and lively line, finishing savory.
VN90+90+ pts. - Vinous - Mar 2021
The 2018 Clos du Roy is a real pleasure to taste. Rich and flamboyant, the 2018 possesses tremendous depth as well as character. Succulent red fruit, blood orange, mint, spice, leather and new oak all mesh together. Readers will find a Fronsac of real substance and power. The 2018 is impressive. I won’t be at all surprised if it ages well.
JD8888 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/11/2021
A solid, rich, mouth-filling effort, the 2018 Clos Du Roy gives up plenty of darker currants and black cherry fruits as well as medium to full body, a round, mouth-filling, chewy texture, ripe tannins, and a good finish. Drink this pleasure-bent, flavorful 2018 over the coming 7–8 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

VN88+88–90 pts. - Vinous - Jun 2021
The 2019 Durand-Laplagne Les Terres Rouges is so distinctive. Firm tannins give the wine shape, structure and energy that build with time in the glass. Dark cherry, plum, gravel, spice and leather all flesh out in the glass. The 2019 is a bit eccentric, but it is also incredibly appealing; this is a cru to watch. It will be interesting to see if the 2019 gains a bit more flesh in élevage.
JD87+87–89 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 6/30/2020
The 2019 Château Durand Laplagne Cuvée Terres Rouges will be a solid, thoroughly enjoyable red. Giving up plenty of ripe black cherries, chocolate, and leafy herbs as well as a touch of earth, it’s medium-bodied, has a rounded, supple texture, light tannins, and a good finish. It’s going to drink well for 7–8 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

WE8686 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2021
Ripe plum- and cherry-tomato flavors lend a juicy, fruity, easy-drinking aspect to this medium-bodied wine. It’s low in tannins and acidity for a gentle texture. (Jim Gordon)

These wines are smooth and offer notes of dark fruits like cherries and plums. They are great with many meals, adding to the enjoyment of any dining occasion. Choosing a Merlot priced under $20 lets you enjoy these wonderful tastes without spending a lot. Our selection includes popular brands such as Chateau Ste. Tips for Enjoying Your Merlot Wines

To make the most out of your Merlot experience, serve it at room temperature to best release its rich flavors and aromas. Merlot pairs wonderfully with a variety of foods. Try it with grilled red meats, hearty pasta dishes, or a selection of firm cheeses to enhance its fruity and smooth qualities. Don't hesitate to decant your Merlot for about an hour before serving; this allows the wine to breathe, softening the tannins and enriching the overall flavor profile. Enjoy discovering the perfect combinations!
