Notes of blackberries, cassis, black olives, dried thyme and licorice. Medium-to full-bodied with creamy but structured tannins. Flavorful finish with strawberries. An excellent Gigondas here. Drinkable now, but better from 2023. (Zekun Shuai)

This Grenache-dominant blend (augmented by a small proportion of Syrah) highlights rich, roasted black-plum and cherry compote flavors accented by streaks of granite and gun flint. Voluptuous in texture and finishing on fine, furry tannins, it’s an immediately enjoyable wine with a spicy char and cinnamon finish. Best now–2026. (Anna Lee C. Iijima)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
Deep garnet. Displays aromas of cherry and blackberry, along with hints of woodsmoke and black pepper. Gently chewy and broad on the palate, offering bitter cherry, dark berry and licorice flavors and a hint of succulent herbs. Dusty tannins add grip to a long, spicy finish that echoes the cherry note. (Josh Raynolds)

Odonata Grenache

2015 / 750 ml.

VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2019
Limpid ruby-red. Aromas and flavors of fresh red fruits and lavender; a spicy topnote adds urgency and lift. Juicy and light on its feet, showing vaguely Pinot-like character and supple texture. Finishes gently sweet, with good persistence, discreet tannins and a lingering suggestion of jammy red fruit.

RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Apr 2020
As with the rest of the wines, I tasted the first two vintages bottled, including the 2018 Fuente de los Huertos Garnacha from a cold and wet year, very different than 2017. The fermentation and élevage were similar: a long maceration with full clusters and one year in used 500-liter oak barrels that are quite neutral and don’t lend oak aromas or flavors. This is a little shy and has deeper color than the 2017 (a constant here and in the San Martín zone: the wines have less color in warm years and deeper ones in cooler years) along with great energy, balance, detail and texture. It’s very young but still approachable, with no noticeable oak (like all the reds here), great purity and definition. The floral aromas come with some time in the glass. This is beautiful, a Garnacha of great finesse. 2,500 bottles were filled in January 2020.

RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2020
The Capçanes village red 2019 Negre was produced with 75% Garnacha and 25% Cariñena from organically farmed vineyards on clay soils, fermented in stainless steel with full clusters (they don’t have a destemmer here or in Priorat) and bottled unoaked after six months. It has aromas of licorice and Mediterranean herbs. It has character and is light and ethereal, in the direction of the 2018, with fine-grained tannins and a stony sensation in the mouthfeel. This is incredible; it has 12.5% alcohol and is fluid, fresh and incredibly easy to drink. This is young but very approachable. 12,350 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2020.

Really perfumed and beautiful with lots of bright fruit and spices. Lots of lavender, too. It’s full-bodied with creamy tannins. Delicious finish. Drink or hold.

Tenshen Red

WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2022
Very dry aromas of dried blood sausage, muddled plum and cracked pepper make for an extremely savory nose on this bottling. The cracked pepper spice sails through the sip, where dried meat and very dark purple-fruit flavors also arise. (Matt Kettmann)

Basso deftly demonstrates Winemaker Steve Pannell’s red wine prowess. Medium weight with quiet power and elegance, it’s a heady mix of plump brambly berries, woodsy spice, violets and stony minerals. The purity of fruit, fresh acidity and chiseled tannins make for hearty yet refreshing drinking.

RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th Nov 2021
The red 2020 Arom is completely different from the wines I tasted before, as it’s now pure Garnacha from Calatayud, from vineyards in the villages of Acered, Alarba and Atea on slate, quartzite and limestone glacis soils. It fermented with 50% full clusters and matured exclusively in concrete. 2020 was a very rainy year in Calatayud, a year of cooler temperatures, and the wines are fluid and fresh. This is very primary and fruit driven, tasty and juicy, with fine tannins and very easy to drink. 10,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2021. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Bernabeleva Navaherreros Tinto

Garnacha de Bernabeleva
2021 / 750 ml.

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2023
The pale, floral and aromatic 2021 Navaherreros Garnacha de Bernabeleva shows really elegantly, with a sophistication and complexity beyond its price point. It has contained ripeness, 14% alcohol and full development of aromas and flavors, with a fine thread in the nicely textured palate and very fine tannins. It’s the best Navaherreros to date and a real bargain. 25,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2023. (Luis Gutiérrez)
