Shop Our Selection of New York Wines

Over the past few decades, the New York wine regions have evolved from Concord/Niagara country to a vast series of appellations featuring indigenous labrusca, yummy obscure hybrids and classic noble grape varieties. The Finger Lakes vineyards, in particular, are famed for wines made from Riesling, Cabernet Franc or Chardonnay. Heron Hill winery makes award-winning wines from all of these!

In addition, the Niagara Escarpment is a fabulous local appellation (particularly for Pinot Noir), while the Lake Erie region is famed for their juicy, sweet grapey red, white and pinks from native grapes.

  5. Dr. Konstantin Frank Semi-Dry Riesling

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#78107

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Oct 2020
The 2019 Semi-Dry Riesling comes in with 11.5% alcohol, 22 grams per liter of residual sugar and seven grams of total acidity. Not quite as aggressive as the Dry Riesling, this nonetheless shows off its nice acidity early and often. Focused, precise and pure, it has fine balance. At this price level, this (like its sibling) is a no-brainer purchase. The Dry Riesling has a lot more energy, while this is predictably lusher. Reasonable minds and personal preferences might differ as to which is better. I’d give the nod to the Dry Riesling just now, but it might depend on my mood and how I would use it.

  6. Boundary Breaks Chardonnay Unoaked

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#93228

    RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 3rd Jun 2021
The 2020 Chardonnay Unoaked is very dry and comes in at 13.5% alcohol. The winery described this as a ripe vintage, and this sure has some stuffing. Relatively full-bodied and chock-full of fruit — not always the norms for the Finger Lakes — this is delicious on the finish, with just enough acidity to support the fruit. I might yearn for a bit more power, but the rest here is pretty super. It will be interesting to see how this ages. It is well priced for the quality too. Sourced from 20-year-old vines, there were 400 cases produced.

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#77978

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Oct 2020
The 2019 Dry Riesling comes in with 8.5 grams per liter of residual sugar, 8.1 of total acidity and 11.5% alcohol. My tongue is still tingling — the sugar here merely prevents the acidity from running away with this wine, but there is plenty of power on the gripping and tense finish. After the enticing and classic aromatics, this finishes with a bang. There is a hint of petrol as it warms and airs out, but not much. Beautifully done and very elegant, it’s another fine value from the winery this issue.

  12. Sheldrake Point Dry Rosé

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#82632

    RP8787 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th May 2021
The 2020 Dry Rosé is all Cabernet Franc, coming in with six grams of residual sugar, 7.5 of total acidity and 12.2% alcohol. Light and bright, but showing fine intensity on the finish, this adds herbs and a touch of charred veggies, the Cab Franc character coming right through on opening. Eventually, that nuance faded and folded into the whole, leaving this pulpy and fruity with fresh flavors. The acidity makes this refreshing and dry, but it’s not shrill, thanks to the residual sugar. It’s not the most concentrated pink in this report, but it still seems surprisingly unctuous in texture in the mouth. This can do well on its own or with food, but I’d probably prefer to use it on its own. Drink it very young for best results.

  13. Lamoreaux Landing Semi-Dry Riesling

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#74554

    WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 8/1/2020
The nose of this wine is stony and earthy in crushed limestone, with accents of citrus peels and bright spring blossoms rounding it out. The palate shows more ripeness in the way of juicy peach and apple tones, making this a pleasantly plump, semidry Riesling. It is poised in feel and propped up by well-integrated acidity. A kiss of citrus lingers on the close.

  14. Standing Stone Vineyards Riesling

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#92797

    WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 8/1/2020
Under the leadership of the Hermann J. Wiemer team, this entry-level, off-dry Riesling is an outstanding success. A boisterous, perfumed nose yields aromas of citrus blossoms, pomelo, lemon oil, tangerine and fresh yellow apple. The juicy palate gives way to ripples of juicy pear, apple and pineapple flavors, lifted by a persistent vein of orange-laden acidity. It’s impeccably balanced and incredibly concentrated and fresh, with a gentle stoniness riding underneath it all. While enjoyable now, it has the structure and fruit to hold well through 2030.
