Shop for Beaujolais Wines

Red Beaujolais wine is comprised of the Gamay grape, which is similar to Pinot Noir, but with more fruit-forwardness and a bit more softness.

The most famous of these is the Beaujolais Nouveau wine which is released on the third Thursday of November every year. Everyday Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages wines are light, vibrant and easy-to-drink, as well, while the higher-end Cru Beaujolais (from regions such as Julienes, Brouilly, Moulin a Vent or Fleurie, etc) exhibit greater complexity while maintaining a similar body and smooth texture.

Brilliant ruby. Spice-tinged red fruits on the incisive nose and in the mouth. Taut and linear for the vintage, revealing a touch of smokiness on the back half. Rounds out with air and finishes warm and fruity, with very soft tannins coming in late.
    RP8787 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Aug 2016
The 2015 Beaujolais Villages has an uncomplicated Morello cherry and strawberry nose with just a hint of banana skin. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, good depth of fruit with a touch of spice towards the surprisingly masculine finish. A more “serious” Beaujolais Villages? Still, this is well crafted and should give 3–4 years of pleasure.

Light-bodied and elegant, with a fine blend of savory tea leaf and tobacco notes, red currant and raspberry fruit. Well-balanced, bright and tangy. Drink now through 2016. 45 cases imported.
    RP8686 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 25th Jun 2014
The 2012 Brouilly, which comes from 50-year-old vines and is raised for nine months in wooden foudres, has a light and rather stalky bouquet, though it is nicely defined and natural. The palate is a little shrill on the entry, light and forward, but refreshing and crisp on the sour cherry finish. Drink now.

Château de la Chaize Brouilly Cuvée Vieilles Vignes

    2012 / 750 ml. | Item#81890

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 25th Jun 2014
The 2012 Brouilly Cuvee Vieilles Vignes comes from 55- to 75-year-old vines and undergoes complete carbonic maceration, after which it spends 9 to 12 months in wooden cask. It has much more fruite on the nose compared to the regular cuvee: red currant coulis and raspberry leaf. The palate is sweet and quite dense on the entry, with notes of strawberry, sour cherry and lemon. This is very composed on the finish, long in the mouth and just a lovely Brouilly full of succulence and flavor. Drink now–2019.
    WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - October 1, 2015
Selected from vines that are more than 50 years old, this wine ages in Burgundy barrels, where it has picked up some oak tannins to fill out its structure. Powerful and compressed into a dark, peppery mouthful of umami flavor, with the meatiness of beef, it’s built to cellar. Then serve with a steak smothered in mushrooms.
    SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2015
Smoke and bacon fat notes provide a rich base for the spiced mulberry, graphite, cured tobacco and licorice drop flavors in this light-bodied, chewy red. Offers a fresh, tangy finish. Drink now through 2017. 200 cases imported.

    WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2015
The Boissieu family produces a style of Beaujolais that is rich, packed with fruit and with a structure that allows for some aging. This wine, from a certified biodynamic vineyard, has black plum skin and cherry flavors along with a tight aftertaste that will soften. Drink from 2016.
    VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2016
Lurid ruby-red. Spicy red fruits, dried rose and hints of succulent herbs and earth on the nose. Juicy and tightly focused, offering red currant and bitter cherry flavors that become sweeter on the back half. Fine-grained tannins shape the finish, which hangs on with good spicy persistence.
    RP8686 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Aug 2016
The 2014 Beaujolais Villages has a simple redcurrant and cherry-scented bouquet that does not have the delineation of the Beaujolais Leynes. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, bright tart red fruit but just a touch short on the finish. Drink it without too high expectations over the next 24 months.

Vivid ruby. High-pitched red berry and spicecake scents show very good clarity and pick up a mineral overtone as the wine opens up. Juicy and lithe, offering intense strawberry and bitter cherry flavors and a touch of candied rose. In a silky, open-knit style, finishing clean and bright and with just a hint of fine-grained tannins.

Vivid ruby. Mineral- and spice-accented aromas of fresh dark berries and violet, with a hint of incense building in the glass. Shows excellent clarity, offering sappy blackberry and floral pastille flavors complicated by a suave hint of spicecake. Finishes long and sappy, with sneaky tannins and strong floral persistence.
