This is quite an approachable Zinfandel with all the classic Zin notes—blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, chocolate, fennel, violets—along with resolved tannins and a vivacious acidity. Bedrock Old Vine Zinfandel

Item #: 87005

SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - May 31, 2023
Spry and briary, this Zinfandel is fun to drink, with lively black cherry, licorice and dried sage flavors, which take on richness and cracked pepper accents toward zesty tannins. Drink now through 2031. 4,000 cases made. (Tim Fish)
JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/21/2023
Most of the fruit for the 2021 Zinfandel Old Vine comes from Sonoma. Ripe ruby hued, the wine is fresh with ripe berries and white pepper spice, as well as roses. Medium-bodied, with good structure, fresh acidity, and fine tannins, it has a fully dry style. It is an outstanding value and would also be an outstanding wine to pour by the glass. Drink it over the next few years. (Audrey Frick)

VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2018
Succulent dark cherry, tobacco, spice, cedar and leather flesh out in the 2016 Zinfandel Oakley Road Vineyard. Expressive aromatics give the wine shape and expansiveness that is matched by the raciness of the sweet, pliant fruit. Exuberant and forward, with terrific depth and fine balance, the Zinfandel is a winner from Joel Peterson.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jun 2018
From vines planted in the 1890s, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Zinfandel Oakley Road Vineyard rocks up with an incredibly spicy nose of cloves, cinnamon stick and anise over a core of prunes, raisin cake and sandalwood with a waft of potpourri. Medium to full-bodied, the palate explodes with berry preserves and exotic spices notes, with a lively line and chewy tannins, finishing with lingering dried fruit nuances. 150 cases produced.

The medium ruby colored 2019 Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley boasts an alluring mélange of spicy red and black cherries and berries on the nose, plus touches of cracked pepper, potpourri, aniseed and underbrush. From a selection of grower vineyards and blended with 15% Petite Sirah, this is a widely accessible and desirable wine that shows notes of crushed rock and dried herb. Concentrated flavors of blackberry and cherry combine well to offer richness and plenty of reward. (Virginie Boone)

JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/22/2021
Just a quintessential Russian River Valley Zinfandel, the 2019 Zinfandel Russian River Estate reveals a semi-translucent ruby/purple color to go with a wonderful perfume of blueberries, plums, flowery incense, cedarwood, and loads of spice. These all carry over to the palate, where the wine is medium-bodied and has a seamless layered texture, no hard edges, and just wonderful purity of fruit. You can’t go wrong with this wine, which remains an outstanding Zinfandel vintage after vintage. It’s drinking beautifully today and should be drinking nicely at age 7 or 8, if not a decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2019 Zinfandel (Russian River Valley) is bright and full of energy. Ripe red/purplish berry fruit, rose petal, spice, lavender and mint are front and center in this refreshing Russian River Zinfandel. Floral notes and bright acids perk up the finish. This is such a gorgeous wine, and also a great introduction to this lineup. The Russian River Zinfandel is really a Zinfandel-based field blend from Limerick Lane and a handful of other properties, including Banfield, Collins, Sodini and Ponzo.
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2021
With a bright entry of red fruit, this field blend is rounded and richly full bodied, balanced by its underlying acidity and waves of dried herb and clove. Leather, black pepper and a touch of nutmeg figure into the hearty mix.

Not all wines are made from grapes. Pretty much any plant matter — even dandelions — can be fermented, but most wines made from something other than grapes are made from fruits. Plums, pears, apples (cider), cherries and strawberries are the most common base ingredients.

Fruit wines are typically created a bit differently than normal wines, because most fruits don't have the necessary balance of sugar, acids and tannins found in grapes. Other ingredients, such as sugar or honey, are often added to balance out the flavors.

Honey is a subcategory of its own — mead, one of the world’s older alcoholic beverages, is made by fermenting honey and water.
