Shop for Beaujolais Red Wines

Red Beaujolais wine is comprised of the Gamay grape, which is similar to Pinot Noir, but with more fruit-forwardness and a bit more softness.

The most famous of these is the Beaujolais Nouveau wine which is released on the third Thursday of November every year. Everyday Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages wines are light, vibrant and easy-to-drink, as well, while the higher-end Cru Beaujolais (from regions such as Julienes, Brouilly, Moulin a Vent or Fleurie, etc) exhibit greater complexity while maintaining a similar body and smooth texture.

Bright magenta. Musky, spice-accented red berries, fresh flowers and a hint of earthiness on the perfumed nose. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry and black raspberry flavors that slowly deepen and become sweeter on the back half. Dusty tannins build steadily through a long, chewy finish that leaves sweet dark berry and peppery spice notes behind.

Sweet, perfumed and expansive on the palate, offering intense boysenberry and cherry that tighten up slowly on the back half. Blends richness and energy smoothly and finishes very long and sappy, with velvet tannins coming in late.

What a Beaujolais beauty! Ripe and vibrant with a ravishing, silky texture on the palate, where the interplay of delicate cherries, mineral acidity and gentle tannins is spot on. What a long and refined finish! Drink or hold.
    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Aug 2019
The boisterous 2017 Brouilly Reverdon is showing well, bursting with scents of blackberries, raspberries and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy palate that’s generous and fruit-driven, with succulent underlying acids and youthfully chewy tannins. (William Kelley)

Vivid ruby. Ripe dark berries and candied flowers on the perfumed nose. Pliant black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors show a hint of licorice, and a candied violet nuance adds a sweet touch. The floral note carries steadily through the finish, which is shaped by youthful tannins and sharpened by a building mineral flourish. (Josh Raynolds)
    SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2019
Cherry and tangy wild raspberry flavors are nicely balanced against peach, mineral and floral elements in this pretty, light-bodied red, with integrated tannins framing the white pepper and tea notes, plus hints of smoke on the finish. Drink now through 2024. (Gillian Sciaretta)

    2020 / 750 ml. | Item#94800

    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 19th Aug 2021
The 2020 Beaujolais-Villages Les Vignes de Lantignié has turned out beautifully, bursting with aromas of blackberries, spices and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, ample and succulent, with lively acids, melting tannins and a beautifully defined finish, this is worth a special effort to seek out. It’s a benchmark for the appellation and the region, plus it’s a terrific value.

This is pretty crisp and sleek, but there are a slew of red-berry aromas, also plenty of wild strawberry here. A bit tart and simple at the finish, but on a warm day this should provide serious refreshment. Drink now.

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#85714

    VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2019
Bright ruby. Vibrant, spice-tinged red/blue fruit and floral qualities on the deeply perfumed nose; a smoky mineral flourish adds urgency. Pliant, gently sweet black raspberry, mulberry and rose pastille flavors firm up slowly with aeration. Powerful yet lively in character, showing solid closing thrust, strong persistence and repeating mineral and floral notes.
    JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, February 18, 2019
This offers brambly strawberry aromas with a spicy edge, too. The palate has a succulent, juicy and long, concentrated feel. Excellent depth of structure and flavor. Drink or hold.
