Red Beaujolais wine is comprised of the Gamay grape, which is similar to Pinot Noir, but with more fruit-forwardness and a bit more softness.
The most famous of these is the Beaujolais Nouveau wine which is released on the third Thursday of November every year. Everyday Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages wines are light, vibrant and easy-to-drink, as well, while the higher-end Cru Beaujolais (from regions such as Julienes, Brouilly, Moulin a Vent or Fleurie, etc) exhibit greater complexity while maintaining a similar body and smooth texture.
