Lions de Suduiraut Sauternes

2018 / 375 ml.

Item #: 99066

WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2021
This ripe, honey- and apricot-flavored wine has intensity as well as an already approachable character. The second wine of Suduiraut is rich, still hinting at freshness, with a dry edge from botrytis. Drink from 2023. (Roger Voss)
JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, March 3, 2022
Aromas of dried figs, apricots, candied citrus, ginger and honeycomb. Sweet and luscious with spicy and toasty character. Bittersweet burnt-lemon notes on the finish. Drink or hold.

Lean, sweet and intense, this has plenty of underlying structure lending racy support to its caramel and apricot preserve flavors and concentrated texture. It finishes with a nutty aftertaste. Drink now through 2025.

Dutschke The Muscat

NV / 375 ml.

Item #: 47617

RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Feb 2013
Pale brown in color and made from Muscat Petite Grain grapes, the NV The Muscat has a really grapey and raisin nose underscored by spices and a touch of roses. Very sweet in the mouth it retains crisp acid to lift the concentrated, liquid raisin flavors. Nicely balanced, it finishes long. Drink it now.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2005
Sweet, dense and spicy, with toffee, molasses and prune flavors that linger on the rich finish. Drink now.

Beeswax and fresh apple flavors mark this racy eiswein. Picks up an earthy note on the finish, which is slightly coarse now, so give this some time to integrate. Best from 2014 through 2032. 50 cases made.

Eroica Single Berry Select

2007 / 375 ml.

Item #: 84559

SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2011
Rich and unctuous, thick in texture but polished and refined, this deftly balances its pear, pineapple, tobacco and tea leaf flavors against pinpoint acidity. Shows depth and amazing length. Drink now through 2019. 72 cases made.
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 26th Dec 2012
For thoughts on Chateau Ste Michelle’s uniqueness and recent evolution, consult my extensive April, 2013 text designed to introduce recent tasting notes. The Ste Michelle-Loosen 2007 Riesling Eroica Single Berry Select is far more interesting, mannerly, and winsome than its 2008 counterpart. Aromas of smoky black tea, truffle, honey, orange marmalade, and peach preserves anticipate the complex flavors that emerge on a palate uncannily poised between textural creaminess and honeyed richness on the one hand and levity and refreshment on the other. The brown sugar and raisins of the 2008 are absent here; instead, spice and citrus rind invigorate, while salted caramel mingled with honey and citrus juice serves for saliva inducement in a long finish. This should be worth following for well more than a decade. This was a warm growing season with heat spikes early-on, but as the terrifically successful dry version of Eroica from the same year also seemed to suggest, its what happens in the late innings that really counts.
ST9191 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Nov/Dec 2011
Deep orange-gold color. Exotic aromas of orange oil, honey, clove, cherry-almond and marzipan. As viscous as motor oil, but with decent saline acidity framing the high-toned, very sweet flavors of apricot nectar and marzipan. Finishes with tokaj-like notes of mushroom and dark earth. Very long and sweet but without a hidden dimension. I wanted a bit more eclat.

Dal Forno Romano Vigna Seré

2004 / 375 ml.

Item #: 86649

RP9999 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2017
The 2004 Passito Rosso Vino Dolce Vigna Seré (500-mililiter) is a masterpiece that is impossible to repeat. In fact, the wine has not been produced since 2004. Even if a vintage as good as this did come along, we’d need to wait another 13 years before we could enjoy this level of maturity and evolution. Formally a Recioto della Valpolicella, this sweet red wine is made with air-dried fruit as local tradition dictates. Luckily no botrytis set in that year, because that would have eroded the wine’s deep and luscious color saturation. The bouquet delivers a generous flow of dark spice, bitter chocolate, espresso, raisin, plum, barbecue spice and teriyaki smoke. The concentration and layering of the wine are both rare and distinctive. The mouthfeel sees sweet flavors with a syrupy mouthfeel. The finish offers hints of caramelized brown sugar and savory hickory. The aging window is impossible to predict, but the wine is surely built to last. I can think of no other wine that comes close to matching this unique style.
VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2017
Bright deep ruby. Intense but refined aromas and flavors of red cherry jam, licorice cocoa and flinty minerals, with a bright violet topnote. Lively but harmonious acidity really lift and extend the rich high concentrated and multilayered flavors on the long, luscious and very precise finish. In many respects, this is always my favorite wine from Dal Forno, as I find it has impeccable balance (14% alcohol, 150g/L r.s. and 7g/L total acidity) and a very high easy-drinking quality (especially given a rather crazy-high 56g/L dry extract). The extremely high quality of this wine (it used to be labeled as a Recioto della Valpolicella) and Dal Forno’s exacting standards are well demonstrated by the fact that he has only made this wine six times in the roughly thirty year lifetime of the estate! Even though the 2004 vintage was marred by an early July hailstorm, this is one of Dal Forno’s best Reciotos ever.

RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Aug 2019
This wine is dedicated to Roberto Ferrarini, the longtime consulting enologist who worked with Giuseppe Quintarelli and the Quintarelli family until his death in 2014. The beautiful 2007 Recioto della Valpolicella Classico A Roberto (packaged in a 375-millliter bottle) is a stunning and magical creation. The last vintage this estate made a Recioto was in 2004, and at the time of this tasting, there was no future vintage earmarked to follow this bottling. Those of you lucky enough to taste this bottle will be rewarded with carefully crafted aromas of plum and raisin with sweet baking spice, moist earth, campfire ash, fresh espresso and a touch of bitter chocolate. This wine was bottled in 2017 and therefore saw ten years of aging in a normal-sized barrique. The wine shows utter silkiness in terms of texture and is surprising light on its feet despite its 15.5% alcohol. This is a precious collectors’ bottle.
VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2021
The 2007 Recioto della Valpolicella Classico A Roberto coats the glass with glycerol-like richness while displaying dusty dried flowers, incense, cloves, pine resin, quince and a lifting hint of camphor. It’s silky in texture yet enlivened by bright acidity, as ripe red fruits give way to hints of grilled orange, exotic brown spices and cocoa. While this is certainly sweet, clocking in at 65 grams per liter of residual sugar, it’s also wonderfully balanced and vibrant from start to finish, tapering off remarkably fresh and perfumed with a bitter twang of coffee and dark chocolate. The 2007 is a thrill-ride rendition of Quintarelli Recioto, which may not last through long-term cellaring, but it will wow collectors over the next 10 to 15 years. The Recioto A Roberto is the only wine in the portfolio that undergoes spontaneous fermentation, and it is also matured completely in small oak barrels. As this was the favorite wine and passion project of Roberto Ferrarini, Giuseppe Quintarelli’s enologist who passed in 2014, the family decided to dedicate the 2007 in his honor.
