    WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2018
This is certainly an intensely structured wine, but its name seems rather excessive for what are balanced fruit and juicy tannins. It has a smooth, minty character, bold berry fruits and a ripe full texture. The tannins and acidity will allow the wine to age further well into 2019, although it can be drunk now.

  5. Altos Las Hormigas Malbec Clásico

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#66915

    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2019
The unoaked 2018 Malbec Clásico 2018 comes from a very good year, after 2013 and 2014, which were very difficult years, and 2015 and 2016 that saw lots of rain. According to winemaker Leo Erazo, it’s the most complex wine to make because of the many different sources of grapes, growers and the volume they make. But they planted 22 hectares in 2012, so they use more of their own grapes; the wine now has some 30% of grapes from Valle de Uco, which is always a cooler region that is noticed in the wine, which is very balanced, harmonious and easy to drink. It has a dusty note and fine tannins; it’s elegant and especially very drinkable.

  6. Castaño Alcaria

    Old Vines
    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#91013

    JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - February 21, 2018
A custom cuvée made for importer Eric Solomon with Jean-Marc Lafage, the 2016 Alcaria is a blend of 50% Monastrell, 25% Syrah, and the balance Garnacha, brought up in a mix of French and American oak barrels. An incredible value that more than over-delivers, this deeply colored red boasts terrific notes of ripe black fruits, chocolate, smoked herbs, and graphite. With full-boded richness and a sexy, opulent style on the palate, it opens up nicely in the glass and should keep for 2–4 years.
    RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Dec 2017
One of the new custom cuvées for their U.S. importer Eric Solomon is the 2016 Alcaria, which is about to be launched. It’s a GSM-ish blend of 60% Monastrell with 25% Syrah and the remaining Garnacha Tintorera with a short time in French and American oak barriques. It’s a little reduced right now after bottling (most probably because of the Syrah), so you might need to give it an energetic decanting or some more time in bottle. The meat component in many wines in this region is part of the signature and the rustic elegance of these wines. There is no reduction in the palate, where the tannins are fine-grained and there’s good balance. 120,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2017.
    SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2017
Floral and mineral notes frame juicy cherry and red plum flavors in this fresh red. Crisp acidity keeps the supple texture focused, while firm tannins give this some heft. Monastrell, Syrah and Garnacha Tintorera. Drink now through 2024. 6,000 cases imported.
    WE8989 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2018
This blend of Monastrell, Syrah and Garnacha Tintorera feels lively, its dark plum and berry aromas laced with chocolate. Smacking tannins create a dry sensation, framing ripe black plum and prune flavors. Complex notes of spice and tomato emerge on the firm finish.

  8. Colonia Las Liebres Bonarda Clasica

    2015 / 750 ml. | Item#84844

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2016
I had not crossed paths with this wine in a while, so I was looking forward to tasting the 2015 Bonarda Colonia Las Liebres, a sure value and very representative of the grape. It’s produced from their own estate vineyards. They aim for a fresher expression of the variety here, with fine-grained tannins, blending grapes from different zones in the province; the grapes are fermented in stainless steel and kept in cement vats, never in contact with oak. 2015 was very warm towards the end of the cycle, and the harvest was 15 days earlier than anticipated. The nose is clean and the palate is soft, a light Bonarda without any oak, a juicy, fresh and easy to drink expression of the variety. It was harvested early and not extracted. The price is almost unbelievable; one to buy by the case. There are four lots of this wine, the first one of 28,434 bottles, but 46,000 liters remain unbottled.

  10. Eduardo Garrido Rioja Crianza

    2011 / 750 ml. | Item#84585

    SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - May 31, 2016
A supple texture masks good density in this focused red. Black cherry and pomegranate flavors are lively, backed by smoke, licorice and iron notes. Firm and fresh. Drink now through 2023. 4,000 cases made.
    WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2016
Earthy, ripe cherry and berry aromas come with notes of baking spices and tobacco. This is crisp in feel, albeit a touch jagged. Smoky, toasty plum and cherry flavors lead, while this is long, spicy and a tad bit hot on the finish.
    VN8787 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2014
Brilliant ruby. Dried cherry, tobacco and succulent herbs on the fragrant nose. A sweet vanilla quality accents lively red fruit flavors on the open-knit palate. Comes up a little short on the finish, which is framed by gentle tannins.

  13. Evodia

    2019 / 750 ml. | Item#89502

    JD9393 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - March 22, 2021
Based on 100% Garnacha, the 2019 Evodia is a killer value that delivers incredible Garnacha flair at a crazy good price. Kirsch, blackberry, acacia flower, violet, and sandalwood notes give way to a medium to full-bodied, seamless, beautifully layered wine with fabulous tannins, no hard edges, and a great, great finish. This is the finest wine at this price point in the world.
    RP90+90+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Apr 2020
The 2019 Evodia is pure Garnacha from old head-pruned vines in the Sierra Santa Cruz in Calatayud. It fermented with around 20% full clusters in concrete and matured mostly in concrete with just 20% of the blend put in used oak barrels for three months. There is a component that matured in concrete egg that I was able to taste separately that seems to bring a touch of freshness to the final blend, something welcomed in a warm year like 2019, which seems like a fresher version of 2017, when the wines achieved quite good ripeness. The nose opens up nicely in the glass and is quite aromatic and floral, exuberant, with a heady touch of ripe fruit. It’s young and tasty, tender and pleasant to drink, with a forward personality. A real bargain. I hope there are more wines like this in Aragon, where the wealth of Garnacha vineyards would make it possible quite easily. 150,000 bottles produced. There are two batches per year. What I tasted had been bottled in February 2020, just a few days before I sampled it.

Aged for four months in wood, this is a dense blend of Castelão, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Trincadeira, bringing the north and south of Portugal together. The wine’s structure is still young, full of vibrant black fruits. It will develop well, so drink from 2020.

  15. Luzón

    2014 / 750 ml. | Item#74965

    VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2016
Bright violet color. Exuberant dark berry and floral scents are complemented by a suggestion of cracked pepper. Seamless and energetic on the palate, offering fresh blackberry and boysenberry flavors that spread out nicely on the back half. Graceful and seamless in style, finishing with very good clarity and gentle, shaping tannins. This wine was fermented and aged in large stainless steel tanks.
    WE8686 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 8/1/2017
Cherry and blackberry aromas come with spice and cool note of cola in this Monatrell-Syrah blend. It’s narrow and tannic, with black fruit and desert herb flavors that finish dry and rubbery.
