Wine Grapes

| All Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon

From the Producer

Our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon combines generous fruit-forwardness with a structured and polished mouthfeel. The wine opens with enticing aromas of ripe dark fruit, cedar and spice. On the palate, black cherry and plum mingle with lingering notes of sage and licorice. Full-bodied and well-rounded, this Cabernet Sauvignon boasts beautiful acidity, fine tannins and a long finish. Enjoy now after an hour of decanting or lay it down in the cellar, as it will age wonderfully for 5–10 years.

Critical Acclaim

JS94 JamesSuckling.com Friday, May 3, 2019

"A very fresh cabernet with licorice, fresh herbs, freshly picked blackcurrants, oyster shell and crushed stones. Black oilve. Full body, vivid acidity and very structured tannins. Drinking beautifully now." (94 pts.)

RP91 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 31st Jan 2019

"The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley contains 4% Petite Sirah and was aged for 16 months in new French (33%) and American (3%) oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes bounding out of the glass with lively crushed blackberries, cassis and warm plums notes with touches of cedar chest and pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm, grainy texture and loads of black fruit layers, finishing long and savory. 12,605 cases produced." (91 pts.)

Napa Valley

Napa Valley is California's -- and America's -- most famous and celebrated wine district. Located north of San Francisco, Napa Valley is most famous for its world-class Cabernets and Chardonnays. The region's acclaim officially took off following a 1976 tasting in Paris when renowned judges chose a Napa Chardonnay and Cabernet over top French wines made from the same grapes.

Most wineries in the region produce either a Chardonnay or a Cabernet, and usually it's both. Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel are also grown with success in Napa Valley. You'll likely recognize the names of some of the viticultural areas within Napa Valley, including St. Helena, Stag's Leap and Carneros.

California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.
