View more wines from Spain

The picturesque countryside of Spain is littered with vineyards large and small, and offers up some of the best value available on the wine market today. You can consistently fine critically-acclaimed Spanish wines selling for less than their counterparts from other wine-producing countries. The Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions are most famous, and there's nowhere else in the world where you'll find as many world-class Tempranillos.

Caliu 2014 / 750 ml.

2014 / 750 ml.

Vivid ruby. Spice-tinged black raspberry and floral pastille aromas show good clarity and are joined by notes of allspice and vanilla. The palate is sweet and focused, with juicy red and dark berry flavors fattening up on the back half. Fine-grained tannins give shape to a long, appealingly sweet finish that echoes the dark berry note strongly. The wine is aged in 85% French and 15% American oak.
RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Nov 2015
Plenty of blackberry, blackcurrants and black cherries are all present in the crisp, mid-weight 2014 Caliu, a blend of 50% Grenache, 25% Carignan and 20% Syrah, aged five months in about 85% French cooperage and 15% American barrels. The wine has grip, tannin and minerality, is medium-bodied and may actually need six to 12 months of bottle age, given the tannin profile. Nevertheless, there’s a lot of flavor and personality in this rugged, somewhat masculine, dry, Spanish red wine. Drink it over the next several years.

Vivid ruby-red. Aromas of ripe red and dark berries, spicecake and candied flowers are complemented by a smoky mineral nuance that builds in the glass. Sappy black raspberry and cherry flavors show good depth as well as energy. Silky and appealingly sweet, finishing with sharp focus and smooth tannins that fold into the wine’s juicy fruit. Raised in stainless steel and concrete tanks. (Josh Raynolds)
