Critical Acclaim

SP89 Wine Spectator Aug 31, 2018

"Cedar, sandalwood and spice flavors frame a core of cherry, licorice and leafy notes in this red. Orange peel acidity and firm tannins give this a solid structure. In the traditional style. Drink now through 2026. 7,500 cases made, 5,000 cases imported." (89 pts.)

JD90 Jeb Dunnuck March 1, 2018

"Ruby/plum colored, the 2014 Crianza checks in as 100% Tempranillo aged 14 months in French and American oak. Currants, black cherries, hints of chocolate, and dried earth/mineral notes all emerge from the glass. With beautiful minerality, medium body, ripe tannin, and a clean finish, it’s a classic Crianza to drink over the coming 7–8 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)" (90 pts.)

RP89 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 28th Feb 2018

"2014 was a challenging year, with rain during the harvest, and the Eguren family discarded up to 30% of their grapes. The 2014 Crianza is pure Tempranillo aged in used French and American oak barrels for 14 months, with rackings every three months. It has strong aromas of black olives, which surprised me, with ripe plums and spices; it’s quite classical with rich fruit nicely intermixed with notes from the barriques. With time in the glass, it develops a lot more fruit-driven aromas, even red fruit and a spicy twist that Marcos Eguren told me is a characteristic from 2014. The palate is soft and polished with good tension (another characteristic of the 2014 vintage), with focused flavors and a good finish. 150,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2017." (89 pts.)

WE89 Wine Enthusiast 12/1/2018

"Aromas of barrel spice, baking spice and earthy plum form an inviting nose. This is chewy and full on the palate, with good balance. Roasted berry, spiced plum, baking spice and clove flavors close up shop on an edgy finish, with popping acidity and residual roasted notes." (89 pts.)

Rioja

One of Spain's most famous wine regions, Rioja lies in north central Spain near the border with France along the Rio Oja River. In fact, many French winemakers moved to this mountainous region from Bordeaux in the 19th century to escape the blight of Phylloxera, which was prevalent at that time. Red wines are typically blends, most commonly using Tempranillo and Grenache (Garnacha) grapes. White wines here are made from Viura grapes.

Spain

The picturesque countryside of Spain is littered with vineyards large and small, and offers up some of the best value available on the wine market today. You can consistently fine critically-acclaimed Spanish wines selling for less than their counterparts from other wine-producing countries. The Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions are most famous, and there's nowhere else in the world where you'll find as many world-class Tempranillos.
