RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2018 Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Proprietary Red Blend Family Reserve Generations is intensely scented of warm black and red currants, Black Forest cake and blueberry compote with nuances of chocolate mint, new leather, tilled soil and fallen leaves. Full-bodied with a taut frame of grainy tannins supporting the densely packed black fruit layers, it has a long lingering minty kick on the finish.SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2020 Features a solid range blackberry paste, fig and plum notes, with cassis bush, bittersweet cocoa and licorice root accents. WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2019 From grapes grown in the eastern Douro Superior region, this wine is dense and structured. Its dry core is still young, bringing out rich black fruits and spice. The wine should age further, so drink from 2021.RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Aug 2019 The 2017 Vale de Cavalos red is a blend from old vines of 50% Touriga Nacional, 20% Touriga Franca, 20% Tinta Roriz and 10% Tinta Barroca, aged in an 80/20 mixture of stainless steel and used French oak for six months. It comes in at 13.7% alcohol. This seems rich and a little jammy. It is immediately impressive because of its big-fruit feel at first, but it lacks some of the freshness of the last couple of vintages. The Coroa and the Reserva this issue might be fresher too. However, this compensates with more depth and roundness, granting that they weren’t all here and tasted side by side. There is a touch of charcoal as well, perhaps a reductive hint, but it doesn’t destroy the performance.SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2020 Black cherry and currant flavors fill this supple, full-bodied red, with underpinnings of black tea, anise and violet lingering into the plush, mineral-edged finish.
