Bedrock The Bedrock Heritage

Bedrock Vineyard
2017 / 750 ml.

Item #: 89262

SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2019
Brooding but not a bruiser. Finesse combines with power, offering fervent blackberry, fruitcake spice, ground pepper and orange zest accents that build intensity toward big but polished tannins. Zinfandel, Carignan, Mataro, Syrah and Alicante Bouschet. Drink now through 2026. 750 cases made. (Tim Fish)
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - May 2019
The 2017 The Bedrock Heritage Wine is powerful, dense and explosive, as wines from this site usually are. Even so, there is a newfound element of finesse at Bedrock that is quite evident in wines like Bedrock’s own Heritage Red Wine, which was once much more concentrated and pushed. Sadly, yields are down 30% in 2017.
RP92+92+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 19th Dec 2019
The 2017 Bedrock Heritage comes from a vineyard planted in 1888 to a field blend of 27 varieties. It has a medium ruby-purple color and gives up aromas of tar, tilled soil, dried tea leaves, white peach and red and black berries with blue fruit preserves plus pepper and floral tinges. The palate is medium to full-bodied and dense with earth-tinged fruits. It has a chewy frame and juicy freshness to lift that density, finishing very long. This is still tightly wound and could use another couple years in bottle.

RP96+96–98 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Aug 2018
The 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes looks as if it will be a worthy successor to the awesome 2015 and 2016 bottlings. From tank, the Grenache shows lovely cherry-berry fruit, ample weight and richness and a long, silky finish, while the Mourvèdre from a new oak barrel stood up to the wood well, offering more red fruits, less alcohol and hints of toast and baking spices.
JD95+95–97 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - August 28, 2018
Deeper ruby/purple-colored, the 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Vieilles Vignes includes slightly less Grenache than normal and is 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, and the rest a mix of permitted varieties. It offers more blackberry, cassis, peppery herbs, and crushed rocks, with a beautiful sense of minerality. Rich, full-bodied, concentrated and focused, it shows an elegant, vibrant side to the vintage yet still has the expected Janasse power and depth. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2021
Saturated ruby. Displays intensely perfumed, spice-accented black and blue fruit, floral oil and candied licorice qualities on the nose. Offers powerful cherry liqueur, black raspberry, fruitcake and exotic spice flavors that tighten up through the back half. There’s surprising energy here given the wine’s volume. Velvety tannins frame a strikingly long, spicy finish that strongly echoes the cherry and floral notes.
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2019
Ripe and fresh, with an engaging beam of cassis, dark plum and boysenberry puree flavors, supported by light anise, graphite and sweet tobacco notes. Shows good juicy energy and a seriously long finish. Drink now through 2035. 504 cases imported. (James Molesworth)

Julien Sunier Fleurie

Item #: 93318

VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2021
Translucent ruby-red. Smoky, mineral-tinged red fruit, spicecake, game and potpourri aromas are complemented by suggestions of allspice and licorice. Juicy bitter cherry and red currant flavors slowly flesh out and turn sweeter with aeration. Fine-grained tannins lend gentle grip to a long, red-fruit-dominated finish that hangs on with strong, spicy tenacity.

Renieri Brunello di Montalcino

2016 / 750 ml.

Item #: 95038

JS9696 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, November 11, 2020
This is a very tight, refined Brunello that shows so much beautiful fruit and polish with dark-berry, cedar, walnut and cherry character. It’s full-bodied with layers of fine tannins and a fresh, pretty finish. Needs much more time to open. Try after 2024.
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2020
The Renieri 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is a plush, fruit-forward and accessible wine that captures the purity and elegance of the vintage. The best take-away, however, is the fresh, ready and bright state of this wine that makes it almost ready to enjoy straight out of the gate. This Brunello from a nine-hectare plot with limestone clay soils offers bold cherry and blackberry with delicate spice, smoke and blue flower. The wine is marked by balanced acidity, and there is some tannic tightness that should further relax by the time this wine hits the market at the start of 2021. This is a go-to bottle (in a 50,000 bottle release) if you want a first and memorable taste of the classic 2016 vintage.
WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2021
Floral aromas of violet and rose mingle with new leather and menthol on this fragrant red. Racy and linear, the palate features dried cherry, licorice and blood orange set against firm, fine-grained tannins. Drink 2024–2031.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2021
A dense, solid style, this red displays cherry, plum, iron, wild herb and scrub aromas and flavors. Concentrated and compact, needs time to unfurl all its nuances and equilibrium. Best from 2024 through 2042. 4,000 cases made, 1,200 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2020
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is a sweetly spiced and fruit-forward expression of the vintage, yet it manages to color within the lines of refinement. Mulled apples and strawberries with a balsamic tinge give way to mentholated herbal tones. It’s soft with a wonderful mix of inner sweetness, pure red berry fruits and minerals, yet it lacks momentum toward the close. Rounded tannins linger along with hints of plum, tobacco and dark inner florals. With the exception of a lull on the mid-palate, the 2016 Renieri is really quite pleasurable, yet it’s better to enjoy this sooner rather than later.

Domaine de Fondrèche Il Était Une Fois

2017 / 750 ml.

Item #: 95359

JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/16/2019
Awesome notes of kirsch, camphor, graphite, and crushed flowers as well as plenty of savory minerality emerge from the 2017 Ventoux Il Etait Une Fois, a seamless, medium to full-bodied wine that makes the most of the vintage. This cuvée is always Grenache-dominated (there’s 10% each of Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Carignan, brought up all in foudre), and I suspect it will keep for 10–15 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 10th Sep 2020
The 2017 Ventoux Il Etait Une Fois is 80% Grenache (from vines planted in 1936) and 10% each Mourvèdre and Syrah. The Grenache goes into foudre, while the other varieties go into new barriques. Delicate notes of dried spices accent black cherries on the nose, while the full-bodied palate has a luscious, suede-like texture, and the finish is vibrant and long.

Gosset Grand Rosé Brut Champagne

NV / 750 ml.

Item #: 92754

SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2019
This vibrant rosé is tightly knit and racy, with a floral overtone and flavors of peach skin, white cherry, whole-grain toast and chalky mineral showing finely honed precision as they ride the creamy, detailed mousse. Disgorged May 2018. Drink now through 2024. 600 cases imported.
JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, September 2, 2019
A bright nose of strawberry and pink-grapefruit aromas with hints of blood oranges and berries, as well as almond biscuits. The palate has a super vibrant, fleshy ball of fresh red-fruit flavor and delivers a refreshing, minerally finish. Drink now.
RP91+91+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Apr 2020
Based on the 2014 vintage, the new release of Gosset’s NV Brut Grand Rosé is still quite tightly wound after its recent disgorgement in November 2019, unwinding in the glass with aromas of orange rind, crisp orchard fruit and warm biscuits. Medium to full-bodied, deep and muscular, it’s bright and chalky, with racy acids and notable phenolic structure, complemented by a pinpoint mousse. It will really begin to show all its cards after a few years on cork.
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2017
This is a soft Champagne — more like a wine with bubbles than a crisp apéritif. With its relatively high dosage and ripe red fruit, it’s rich up front, cleaning up with acidity on the finish. Keep for a few more months and drink from 2018.
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2017
Gosset’s NV Brut Grand Rosé is brisk and chiseled to the core, with plenty of bright cranberry, citrus and floral notes that give the wine lift. Deceptively pale in color and light in body, the Grand Rosé makes its case with persistence and focus. The dry, bracing style is best suited to the dinner table, especially with lighter, fish-based dishes. Disgorged on May 31, 2016. Dosage is 9 grams per liter.

Fèlsina Rància Chianti Classico Riserva

2018 / 750 ml.

Item #: 96589

VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2021
The 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is an absolutely stunning wine. The archetype of Rancia in the past has been of a big, potent Chianti Classico but in 2018, Rancia is a wine of mind-blowing elegance and finesse. Silky, perfumed and indescribably finessed, the 2018 dazzles from start to finish. It’s a magical wine in every way.
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 7th Oct 2021
The 2018 is an unusual vintage that shows an especially austere character. Off the bat, it must be said that the Fèlsina 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia would certainly benefit from more cellar time and a long drinking window. The Rancia is elegant and streamlined with a medium-bodied style that breaks from some of the more concentrated vintages we’ve seen in the past. The bouquet reveals a lot of dark or black character with blackcurrant, tar, resin, iron ore and a dusty hint of dry graham cracker (which reminds us of the vintage heat). Structurally, the wine offers a solid and firm footing, but it would benefit from further evolution.
JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, August 11, 2021
This is really subtle and complex with cherry, herb, floral and sage aromas that follow through to a full body with firm, fine tannins that give form and energy to the wine. Racy and very fine. Drink or hold.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2021
There is a green, leafy edge along with vanilla aromas surrounding the black cherry and resinous oak flavors on the palate in this sinewy red. Finishes on the chewy side, with austere tannins. Needs time. Best from 2024 through 2035. 4,000 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)

Comando G La Bruja

2020 / 750 ml.

Item #: 96858

RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 11th Nov 2021
The first red to be bottled and sold is the 2020 La Bruja de Rozas, which feels a little more reductive this year. The grapes were picked before the torrential rains, so the wine shows a little riper than the wines that were picked after (the single vineyards). It’s flinty and with a note of struck match, with good ripeness at 14.5% alcohol. This is always aromatic and floral, pale and surprisingly ethereal and expressive, a very pleasant and surprising wine that tends to please most people. This is the wine that I buy in volume, as it’s a superb introduction to the Comando G portfolio and style at a very good price. Even though the nose is never short of spectacular, to me the signature here is the super fine grainy tannins from the decomposed granite soils. This goes back to the freshness of 2016 and 2018, perhaps a little rounder and less herbal, somewhere in between the two vintages. 43,175 bottles were filled in late August and early September 2021.

Val di Suga Brunello di Montalcino

2016 / 750 ml.

Item #: 97037

JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, November 11, 2020
Dusty notes with crushed gravel and dried tea leaves are a prelude to aromas of fresh button mushrooms and hints of fennel. Savory mushrooms and olives, followed by firm, fine-grained tannins. Structured and full-bodied. Drink after 2024.
JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/4/2021
The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino has aromatics of menthol and medicinal herbs, brushed leather, and black cherry. The palate is dark fruited without weight, marked with dried blackberry, black tea, dried herbs, and classically balanced structure. It is sourced from three different vineyard sites of various exposition on the hill of Montalcino. This will be ready to drink a touch earlier and be great to check in on over the next 15 years. Drink 2022–2036. (Jeb Dunnuck)
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 30, 2021
Aromas of iron, blood and cherry lead off in this smooth and vibrant red, with a well of dark fruit—black cherry and blackberry—settling in on the palate. Offers a dusting of dark chocolaty tannins on the finish. Best from 2023 through 2043. 1,500 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2020
There’s something savory and slightly rustic about the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino that I find quite attractive. Baked black cherries, balsamic spice and hints of animal musk form up to create a beguiling display. The textures are silky-smooth, with cooling acids and salty minerals lifting the expression while giving way to tart red fruits. Tannins mount, slowly drying out the senses yet there’s still plenty of pleasure to be found here today, as the 2016 comes across as both youthfully structured but also spicy and fresh. This is a blend of Val di Suga’s vineyards throughout Montalcino, refined all in large Slavonian oak.

Chanin Los Alamos Vineyard Chardonnay

2019 / 750 ml.

Item #: 97107

WS9696 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 10/21
We have notes of Gavin Chanin’s Los Alamos Vineyard chardonnays from nearly his first vintage, and there are themes, even specific words, that are common through the years — how the wines invariably feel open, transparent, expansive, wide. There is something about this place that Chanin was born to channel, and he has the good sense to stay out of its way. The ’19 is true to its forbears, perhaps displaying a bit more structure, more vertical assembly against which this wine’s cool and gentle flavors — caramel, pear, lees, a spray of coast fog — assemble. Buy a few bottles of this wine to cellar and to contemplate as you uncork them over the course of years.
JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/26/2021
Boasting a killer bouquet of reductive stone fruits, lemon, chalky minerality, and toast, the 2019 Chardonnay Los Alamos Vineyard is medium-bodied and has flawless balance as well as clean, integrated acidity. Brought up in just 15% new French oak, it’s unfortunate that there are a scant 485 cases produced. It’s beautiful today, yet I see no reason it won’t keep for 7–8 years if stored properly. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2021
The 2019 Chardonnay Los Alamos Vineyard is a brilliant wine. Freshly cut flowers, mint, almond, lemon peel and light tropical notes all grace the Los Alamos Chardonnay. A wine of transparency and nuance, the 2019 is positively stellar. Bright saline notes extend the finish effortlessly. Superb.
WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2021
Strong aromas of struck stone and iron tailings meet with apple peels, melon and a hint of nut on the complex nose of this bottling. Tart apple flavors run into macadamia nut on the palate, which is framed in a firm tension.
