Vigno by De Martino

Vignadores de Carignan
2011 / 750 ml.

Item #: 80635

RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 25th Jun 2014
The 2011 Vigno Single Vineyard La Aguada is a field blend from an un-grafted, dry-farmed, head-pruned old vineyard called La Aguada in Sauzal, in the coastal mountain range in Maule, one of the closest Carignan plots to the Pacific Ocean in the region, which was planted with a mixture of approximately 90% Carignan and 10% other red varieties (Pais, Carmenere, Cinsault and Malbec) in 1955. It has a beautiful perfumed nose with elegant yet rustic touches of cured meats, tree bark, a touch of smoke, ripe cherries and subtle sweet spices with very good acidity, good tension, and delineated pure flavors. A yummy, supple, meaty, delicious bottle of wine, very drinkable and food-friendly. It’s drinking well now, but it should also age well. This is simply superb, elegant, fresh, balanced, a great expression of Carignan and the Maule. At this quality level this is a real bargain. Super! Drink now–2019.

Brilliant ruby. Aromas of fresh raspberry and cherry, with suave floral and mineral nuances adding vivacity. On the palate, sappy, palate-staining red and dark berry flavors put on weight and gain sweetness with air. A powerful yet lithe blend with excellent finishing clarity and fine-grained tannins sneaking in slowly to add grip.

A minerally and exuberantly fruity red, filled with expressive raspberry, cherry and crushed red plum flavors. Snappy midpalate, with a fresh and focused finish, showing plenty of red currant notes. Drink now through 2017. 600 cases made.

Catena Alta Cabernet Sauvignon

2016 / 750 ml.

Item #: 94940

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Jun 2018
The 2016 Catena Alta Cabernet Sauvignon was bottled November 2017 and was also available for tasting even though the wine will be released in 2019. It’s a phenomenal effort of freshness, elegance and finesse while being faithful to the variety. Really impressive. 9,600 bottles produced.
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2018
Bright ruby-red. Less deep on the nose than the 2015 version but pungent and fresh, with red fruit and spicy red pepper aromas accented by an herbal suggestion of tobacco leaf. Leaner and less sweet than the 2015 but still a bit youthfully tight. With less dimension and depth, the tannins come off as slightly dry. This wine suffers by comparison to many of the current red wine releases from Catena Zapata but it’s still a success in the context of its vintage.

Dark and rich, this blend of malbec, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc packs in fruit and spice. It’s buoyant and lively, ripe yet cool, with an evergreen note perking up the black-raspberry fruit; black-pepper spice gives it extra lift and drive.
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2020
Ripe berry, cherry and plum aromas offer an enticing hint of sweet cookie dough. There’s nothing shy about the palate, which hammers at first before calming. Blackberry, savory notes and chocolaty oak flavors offset the wine’s natural piercing intensity. This structured blend is Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and a little bit of Cab Franc; drink through 2023.

Zuccardi Finca Canal Uco

Paraje Altamira
2019 / 750 ml.

Item #: 99256

JS9898 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, August 9, 2022
What a nose, garnering complexity and depth. A wide spectrum of aromas that range from blackberries and blueberries to graphite, tree bark and wet earth. A medium-to full-bodied red, showing so much fleshy fruit and powerful, chalky tannins. But never imposing nor flattering. Impeccable poise, with a long, tight finish. This is the kind of wine that you can drink now or lay down for two decades. Better from 2025.
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2021
The 2019 Malbec Finca Caral Uco hails from Uco Valley and was made in concrete vats. Intense purple in hue. The nose, initially shy, grows increasingly nuanced and intense with time in the glass. It presents notes of cherry, plum, thyme and hints of bay leaf, violet, lavender and other herbs accompanied by an unusual whiff of pink grapefruit. Pristine and elemental in style, this is a textured red in which the fine-grained tannins deliver plenty of chalk, as well as crisp, juicy freshness. More intense and layered than other wines from the house, the formidable fruit flavors are part of a raw, unfiltered expression of the terroir. (Joaquín Hidalgo)
RP96+96+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2022
The 2019 Finca Canal Uco comes from the historical part of Altamira only across the street from their Piedra Infinita vineyard, where the soils are slightly deeper and with a little less limestone and the grapes achieve more ripeness and deliver slightly more generous wines. They planted this vineyard 12 years ago—it was previously planted to apple trees. They have subdivided this 50-hectare vineyard into 40 different plots. The soils are heterogeneous, and they don’t use the stonier soil and also avoid the deeper soils; so, they do a selection, ferment with some stems by plot and then do the blend of some 15 different parts of the vineyard. In Sebastian Zuccardi’s words, they deconstruct the vineyard and then build the wines from the block. This has a combination of the characteristics that are juicier and make you salivate and the limestone, trying to take the best from both worlds. It has some flowers and also iron and blood and is medium to full-bodied, with good ripeness and the house style of seriousness, balance and elegance within the natural power and intensity of the place. This also matured exclusively in concrete without epoxy coating, raw concrete. 11,900 bottles were filled in June 2020. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Beautifully aromatic, showing blood orange and perfumed plum aromas that fold over onto the creamy and velvety palate, with a hint of smoke lying beneath the core of lively plum and Rainer cherry. Ends with firming tannins and a hint of verbena and chalky minerality. Drink now through 2032. 500 cases made, 450 cases imported. (Aaron Romano)
