A concentrated and graceful red, offering ripe currant and cherry coulis notes intertwined with rose petal, mineral and anise accents. Details of garrigue, baking spice and brooding mineral create depth through the finish. Moderate, supple tannins. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2025. 3,500 cases made, 250 cases imported.

The top wine in this tasting from Cyril Henriques’s Domaine Força Real, the 2018 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Schistes is a certified-organic tank-aged blend of 50% Grenache, 45% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre. It’s darker and more saturated than his other cuvées, with hints of licorice and crushed stone on the nose, alongside plummy fruit. In the mouth, it’s full-bodied and supple, with silky tannins lining the mouthwatering finish. It should drink well for 3–4 years, perhaps a bit longer.
