  4. Altos Las Hormigas Malbec Clásico

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#66915

    RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2019
The unoaked 2018 Malbec Clásico 2018 comes from a very good year, after 2013 and 2014, which were very difficult years, and 2015 and 2016 that saw lots of rain. According to winemaker Leo Erazo, it’s the most complex wine to make because of the many different sources of grapes, growers and the volume they make. But they planted 22 hectares in 2012, so they use more of their own grapes; the wine now has some 30% of grapes from Valle de Uco, which is always a cooler region that is noticed in the wine, which is very balanced, harmonious and easy to drink. It has a dusty note and fine tannins; it’s elegant and especially very drinkable.

  7. Tilia Malbec

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#68983

    RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2016
The youthful and aromatic 2016 Malbec has an alcohol level that is one degree lower than the 2015, as the grapes where harvested earlier because of the problems with the vintage. This ended up being an advantage to produce a light and very drinkable Malbec, balsamic and aromatic, even minty with something that reminded me of basil leaves. The palate is similar to the 2015, a tad fresher, and even if they are very similar in style this 2016 is more exuberant in the aromas. A triumph over the vintage. A perfect introduction to Mendoza Malbec at a very attractive price. Some 390,000 bottles produced.

  9. BenMarco Malbec

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#74739

    RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2019
Produced with grapes from Los Chacayes, the 2017 BenMarco Malbec has a mixture of floral and black and red fruit aromas with some spicy and toasty notes, coming through as aromatic and expressive. It has a juicy palate with freshness and a very tasty and expressive finish. 200,000 bottles produced.

Bright ruby-red. Lovely violet lift to the aromas of blackberry and cherry. Plush, rich and sweet, with its crushed black raspberry and black pepper flavors offering considerable immediate appeal. Less gripping than the Cabernet Sauvignon but smooth and refined, showing good depth of flavor. Finishes classically dry and pure, with a light dusting of tannins that are not quite as smooth as those of the Cabernet. I’d give this wine another 6 to 12 months in the bottle before pulling the cork. Incidentally, Edgardo del Pópolo is responsible for making the BenMarco wines, in the same Agrelo winery in which the Susana Balbo wines are made.

  10. Crios Malbec

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#70898

    JS9090 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, June 21, 2017
Always a solid malbec with dried fruit, figs and mushroom character. Medium body, soft and easy tannins and a savory finish. Screw cap. Drink now.
    VN8888 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2017
Bright medium-deep red. Pure aromas of black cherry, menthol, violet and spicy oak. A step up in intensity than the Red Blend, and less green than that wine, but still with modest flesh and sweetness. Finishes juicy, slightly tart and firm, with dusty tannins and decent persistence. Certainly the sweetest of this trio of Crios reds, but this clean, varietally accurate Malbec could use more stuffing.
