Blended of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller portions of Petit Sirah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2015 Tarot Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep garnet-purple color and exuberant nose of warm plums, crushed cherries and crème de cassis with touches of Indian spices, fragrant earth and violets with a waft of lavender. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, it fills the palate with black berry and earthy layers, finishing with the lovely velvety texture paving the way.
    JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - December 29, 2017
The 2015 Tarot Cabernet Sauvignon offers more black cherry, spice and hints of toast, as well as medium to full-bodied richness and a tighter, more focused, concentrated style. It’s terrific now but should evolve gracefully.

  6. Valle Reale Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

    2018 / 750 ml. | Item#91918

    VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2019
Bright red. Red cherry and flowers on the perfumed nose; much more fragrant than the 2017 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo. Then fresh and juicy, with bright red fruit repeating in the mouth. Finishes long and savory, showcasing notable purity. Outstanding cool-climate Montepulciano of noteworthy refinement. Very, very well done; I’m not sure readers fully realize just how hard it is to obtain a result of this level in a cold-weather environment such as that of Popoli. This success speaks loudly of the capability and talent of owner Leonardo Pinzolo and his Valle Reale technical team.
    WE8888 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2020
This entry-level wine from Valle Reale is produced from organic grapes and sees no time in oak. The result is a pure, fresh wine that dazzles in flavors of tangy red plum and succulent red cherry. Lifted acidity and delicate, sandy tannins frame it all, giving it enough structure and verve to be enjoyed at the dinner table.

Old-school meets new in this Zinfandel, with just enough polish and plumpness to match the briary rusticity. Offers expressive black cherry, smoky anise and white pepper flavors. Drink now through 2024. 4,000 cases made.
    VN9191 pts. - Vinous - May 2019
The 2017 Zinfandel Old Vine is gorgeous. Fresh, floral and beautifully perfumed, it is light on its feet yet delivers tons of flavor intensity. Super-ripe red cherry, red plum, cedar, tobacco and floral notes are all pushed forward. Silky tannins add to the wine’s considerable appeal. The 2017 was aged 60% in foudres of various sizes and 40% in smaller French oak barrels.

  8. Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#89261

    RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2019
Streamlined and elegant, this mid-weight red trots out notes of grilled herb and dark fruit nuances that segue to spice, tilled earth and savory tobacco, with great complexity. This 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Berardenga is still a bit closed and tight, but this beautiful wine boasts all the best qualities of this vintage. It shows elegance and power, two contrasting characteristics that only work well together in the world’s most achieved expressions. The most satisfying aspect of this Riserva is the crisp acidity on the close that keeps the palate refreshed and ready for the next sip.
    SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2019
This red offers density and focus, creating an ideal frame for the cherry, strawberry, almond, leather and earth flavors. A firm backbone of tannins lends structure and the finish persists, leaving an accent of bitter almond. Best from 2022 through 2040. 5,833 cases made.
    VN92+92+ pts. - Vinous - Aug 2019
The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva shows all the quality and pedigree of the year in its layered personality and overall nuance. Cedar, dried cherry, game licorice and tobacco convey the darker, gamier side of Sangiovese that is such a signature at Fèlsina. The 2016 finishes with terrific energy and bright acids that suggest it will enjoy a long life in the cellar, but readers should plan on giving it at least a few years in bottle.
    WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2020
Aromas of exotic spice and black plum mingle with notes of wild herb and a whiff of oak. On the tight elegant palate, firm close-grained tannins support red cherry, pomegranate, chopped mint and star anise while bright acidity lends balance. It’s still youthfully austere so give it time to fully develop. Drink 2024–2036.
    JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 7, 2019
This is a very cedary Chianti Classico, the wood showing prominently, but also showing beautiful dried rose petals and orange rind. Full-bodied with structured tannins and a chewy finish. Drink from 2023.

A dark version, featuring intense flavors of blackberry, black cherry, spice and tar up against a wall of tannins. All the elements are here, and it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Terrific length. Best from 2023 through 2040. 25,000 cases made.

  10. Quilceda Creek CVR

    2017 / 750 ml. | Item#92793

    JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - April 15, 2020
The 2017 Columbia Valley CVR is smoking stuff. Based on 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc sourced from the Champoux, Galitzine, Palengat, and Wallula Vineyards, it has loads of cassis, toasted spice, graphite, and dried tobacco notes as well as full-bodied richness, a broad, expansive mouthfeel, and sweet tannins. It’s not far off the top releases here, and it remains a stunning value in world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink it any time over the coming 15 years or more.
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 22nd Oct 2020
A blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 CVR Columbia Valley Red Wine jumps out of the glass with aromas of dusty red cherry skin, luscious baking spice, dark plum and cassis. Full-bodied, the wine still has the same attention to detail as its bigger brothers in the range, just at a keener price. In the mouth, the CVR offers up structured tannins with energetic acidity, subtle spice with red and black berry tones. The wine concludes with a delightful and lingering finish. Just under 7,000 cases produced.
    VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2020
Bright red-ruby. Expressive aromas of blackcurrant, dark raspberry, blueberry, licorice, menthol, cedar and tobacco leaf. Juicy, fine-grained and quite firm on the palate, showing a bitter chocolate quality to its sweet, plush dark berry and fresh herb flavors. Wonderfully harmonious for a second wine, as there are no obvious signs of overripe fruit. Finishes dense, firm and suave, with a smooth dusting of building tannins and excellent chocolatey length. Drink now or hold.

    2016 / 750 ml. | Item#88071

    SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2018
Enticing, with bright, engaging raspberry, cherry and red currant fruit infused with gently roasted sandalwood and apple wood, garrigue and licorice root notes. A swath of tobacco underscores the finish, giving this an old-school hint. Best from 2020 through 2040. 2,500 cases made.
    RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Aug 2018
Made from 50- to 80-year-old vines, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape offers tremendous purity for an entry-level cuvée. Pine and rosemary notes accent bright cherry fruit in this full-bodied, creamy textured and lush example of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The assemblage is 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre. Enjoy it over the next decade.
