A textbook Tavel, the 2023 Tavel Vieilles Vignes has a deep amber/ruby hue as well as a ripe, powerful, yet still lively and fresh nose of mulled strawberries, flowers, and a kiss of herbes de Provence. Medium-bodied on the palate, it brings ample richness, a round, layered mouthfeel, a good spine of acidity, and a certain saltiness on the finish. It’s beautifully done and geared for the dinner table. (Jeb Dunnuck)

A terrific, ripe example of what Tavel offers—bold and ample waves of cherry and pomegranate that are broad in feel and held in check by chalky tannins and juicy acidity. A bit warm on the finish, with fresh-cut chive and mineral notes adding a fresh kick. Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault. Drink now through 2027. 2,500 cases made, 300 cases imported. (Kristen Bieler)
