The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Fission emerges from Alta Vista, on Moon Mountain. A dark, potent wine, the 2019 captures plenty of mountain energy in its savory, earthy flavor profile. Dark cherry, mocha, spice, new leather, licorice and chocolate all flesh out. My impression is that less new oak and longer élevage might bring out even more character. This is certainly an impressive debut from Mai Errazuriz and Rodrigo Soto.

This is a balanced red, showing blackberry and bark with chili and some herbs. It’s medium-to full-bodied with nice drinkability and a succulent, flavorful finish. Iodine, pine needles, slate and graphite undertones. Subtle. Vineyards from the early 1970s. This is from Moon Mountain. Drink after 2022. 1,500 cases made.

Delivers a vivid stream of violet and plum notes set against a silky frame, backed by anise and sweet spice accents on the finish. Very fan-friendly. Drink now through 2023. 1,500 cases made. (James Molesworth)

Also pure Southern Rhône goodness, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes has classy notes of red and blue fruits, candied orange, flowers, peppery garrigue, and loads of Asian spices. Beautifully textured, silky, and elegant on the palate, it has wonderful tannins, a notable sense of freshness, and a great, great finish. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Ripe and expressive, with a lovely display of warmed plum, raspberry and blackberry puree flavors infused with red tea and anise notes. Features a solid mineral note that chimes on the finish, while a roasted apple wood frame keeps it all in line as the fruit takes an encore. Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah. Best from 2023 through 2036. 650 cases made, 200 cases imported. (James Molesworth)

RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Apr 2022
The perfect Mediterranean vintage produced an outstanding Garnacha. The 2020 El Molar fermented with 35% full clusters and matured in a combination of 500-liter barrels and 5,000-liter foudres for one year. The wine is very young and tender; it feels more delicate despite having a little more alcohol than the 2019 (it’s 15%) and with a slightly lower pH (3.49). It’s super aromatic, extroverted and expressive, floral, elegant and complex. There is great balance, and the wine feels fresher and less ripe; it’s refreshing and has a core of minerality and super fine tannins with pungent flavors. There is precision, elegance and balance, the three words that define the vintage. All the wines are very good value, but this is a steal. 40,000 bottles were filled in March 2022. (Luis Gutiérrez)
