Plenty of fresh mulberries, red plums and cherries here with cocoa powder and light, earthy notes, too. Plush, smoothly delivered red fruit on the palate with some gently spicy nuances and a succulent, bold finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 26th Feb 2021
The near-textbook 2018 Basket Pressed Shiraz is a classic representation of McLaren Vale Shiraz. Scents of vanilla and menthol mingle easily with blueberries and black cherries on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is supple enough to offer present-day enjoyment, yet it’s framed by firm tannins sufficient to warrant cellaring of up to a decade, if desired. A historic estate, Kay Brothers continues to turn out traditional wines of excellent quality.

Fresh herbal and tobacco overtones mingle with plum and cherry flavors in this red, with plenty of spice and tobacco flavors lingering on the firm finish. Drink now. 4,721 cases made, 125 cases imported. (MaryAnn Worobiec)

Aromas of redcurrants, blueberries, violets and cedar sit fresh and lively with some lighter, herbal threads. Fine and supple tannins deliver attractively fleshy blueberry and plum flavors. Impressive balance. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Bright blueberries and cassis with some crushed flowers. This is a floral and fragrant style with some savory wildness at the edge. The palate has a crunchy, juicy and approachable feel with bright, ripe red-fruit punch. Drink now. Screw cap.

Have patience with this small-batch Shiraz—it changes constantly in the glass. While it’s not quite as charming as this natural-leaning producer’s two Semillons, it does offer personality in the form of ground cornmeal, plum, currant and licorice notes, which become more floral and spicy as the wine sits in the glass. On the mouth, the acidity soars and the tight-grained powdery tannins rule. But there’s bountiful fresh fruit and spice flavors as well. (Christina Pickard)

Wild Duck Creek Estate Yellow Hammer Hill

Shiraz Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon
2020 / 750 ml.

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Mar 2024
This 2020 Yellow Hammer Hill contains Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as the usual Shiraz and Malbec. It leads with a balanced, fulsome nose, with roasted meat crust, redcurrant, raspberry licorice, anise, fennel seed, black pepper, iodine and a dusting of iron. It’s glorious. The wine is satisfying and full and savory; the oak is supportive but not intrusive. It’s an all-around impressive wine that delivers flavor, texture and spice in spades. There’s good, solid drinking here. Well done! I easily recommend this for those who chase satisfying, savory flavor saturation in their wines. (Erin Larkin)
