Item#: 70322

SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2012
Deeply rooted black currant, cherry, spice and earth flavors mingle in this intense red. This is more about the fruit, with the well-mannered tannins and structure nicely integrated. The fine finish of black currant and spice lingers. Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2018. 500 cases made.

Where It's From

Region / Tuscany

View more wines from Tuscany

There are few regions as picturesque as Italy's Tuscany. And there are few regions that produce finer wines, either. Tuscany is home to legendary wine regions Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, among others, where the red wine grape Sangiovese is king. It's also home to "Super Tuscans," a category of Tuscan wines that don't officially fall within the Italian wine classification system.

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

Perfumed, this red reveals rose, cherry, raspberry, juniper and sage aromas and flavors. Elegant and detailed, offers bright acidity and fine-grained tannins that add up to finesse and a lingering aftertaste. Best from 2023 through 2042. 2,500 cases made, 1,500 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is seductive, with its sweet spices and floral tones in a bouquet that gives way to dusty black cherry with grounding notes of worn leather and shaved cedar. Dark, ripe fruits, propelled by vibrant acids, and a mix of cooling minerals, savory spice, and fine tannins settle in. The finish is long and structured, with resonating acids, as ripe red fruits and sweet spices slowly fade under an air of pretty red florals. This is a gorgeous expression that can be enjoyed now but will also perform beautifully over the medium term in the cellar. A wonderful mix of ripeness and structure.

This Brunello is well-marked by new oak, adding a vanilla note and wood tannins. Black cherry, blackberry, iron and menthol flavors lay underneath. Dusty tannins line the finish, which is long, finding a nice equilibrium. Best from 2024 through 2038. 5,000 cases made, 3,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

Lots of new wood with some berry and cherry character. Spices, too. Medium body. Fresh finish. Tannic and slightly austere. Needs time to soften and come together. Try after 2024. (James Suckling)
