Critical Acclaim

SP93 Wine Spectator Aug 31, 2019

"A ripe, dense style, with muscular currant, fig and blackberry fruit that is well-steeped, inlaid liberally with singed alder and cedar notes and backed by echoes of tobacco and loam on the finish. This needs a little time to meld fully. Best from 2021 through 2032. 763 cases made." (93 pts.)

VN95 Vinous Mar 2018

"The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Poetry emerges from steep hillside vineyards at the top of Cliff Lede’s Poetry vineyard in Stags Leap. A dark, sumptuous wine, the Poetry captures all of the qualities of Stags Leap in the rich, voluptuous style that is such a Cliff Lede signature. Inky blue/purplish fruit, spice, new leather and tobacco add nuance throughout." (95 pts.)

JD100 Jeb Dunnuck December 29, 2017

"A blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Poetry spent 21 months in French oak prior to bottling. It too is inky purple/blue colored and offers heavenly notes of graphite, liquid rocks, crushed violets, blueberries, charcoal and cassis. Fabulously concentrated, opulent, layered, and ripe, with serious amounts of tannin that come out with time in the glass, this monumental beauty should only be purchased by patient consumers as it’s going to need 7–8 years or more of cellaring." (100 pts.)

RP98+ Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 31st Oct 2017

"A blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot and a 1% splash of Petit Verdot, the deep purple-black colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Poetry offers up crème de cassis, baked black cherries and blackberry preserves with hints of chocolate, licorice and pencil shavings plus smoked meat and truffles. Full-bodied, muscular, taut and very firm, with very fine-grained tannins, the palate is concentrated, long and minerally. This needs cellaring for 3–4 years at least, but it should emerge incredibly profound." (98+ pts.)

Napa Valley

Napa Valley is California's -- and America's -- most famous and celebrated wine district. Located north of San Francisco, Napa Valley is most famous for its world-class Cabernets and Chardonnays. The region's acclaim officially took off following a 1976 tasting in Paris when renowned judges chose a Napa Chardonnay and Cabernet over top French wines made from the same grapes.

Most wineries in the region produce either a Chardonnay or a Cabernet, and usually it's both. Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel are also grown with success in Napa Valley. You'll likely recognize the names of some of the viticultural areas within Napa Valley, including St. Helena, Stag's Leap and Carneros.

California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.
