Critical Acclaim

RP94 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 28th Jun 2019

"Oddero did not make this wine at all in 2014. They experienced hailstorms that year, and Villero suffered the most damage, becoming the only wine to be skipped over in their portfolio. They bought this parcel, located in Castiglione Falletto, in 1989 and have rarely had a sub-par vintage since. The 2015 Barolo Villero is one of the better ones on record, marked by an enormous structure and power to its classic profile of dark berries and currant. You could give it plenty of time to evolve in the cellar, or open it in the short-term to breathe next to a platter of prosciutto, culatello and mild cheeses." (94 pts.)

"Pure and aromatic with cherry, dark-berry and strawberry aromas with hints of peach pit and stone. Full-bodied, very tight and tannic with a focused and lengthy finish. Shows precision and power. Drink in 2023." (96 pts.)

VN94+ Vinous Feb 2019

"The 2015 Barolo Villero is another striking wine in this range. Here it is the wine’s texture and resonance that stand out most. Spice, lavender and menthol notes appear with time in the glass, but it is really the layers of depth and overall complexity that make the Villero one of the most complete wines in the range." Located in northwestern Italy near the Italian Alps, Piedmont is home to two of Italy's more famous wines: Barolos and Barbarescos. Each of these wines are made with the Nebbiolo grape, which is the premier red grape in the region. Other red grapes of note used in Piedmont include Barbera and Dolcetto. Among white wine grapes used in Piedmont are Moscatos, which are increasing in popularity here in the US. Piedmont's capital city Torino is also home to large productions of Vermouth, also made from Moscato.

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.
