Noon Eclipse 2011 / 750 ml.

Item#: 74051

RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 27th Feb 2013
Made from a blend of 82% Grenache, 13% Shiraz and 5% Graciano fruit all from Noon’s McLaren Vale Estate vineyards, the 2011 Noon Eclipse is pale to medium garnet-purple colored with pronounced notes of black pepper, kirsch, black raspberries and mulberries over nuances of lavender, Provence herbs, and underbrush plus a whiff of orange zest. Very full bodied and opulent in the mouth, it has red berry preserve flavors complemented by an array of exotic spices and floral notes that are supported by refreshing, balanced acid and a medium level of finely grained tannins. It finishes very long. It is delicious now, though it will reward with cellaring and drink best from 2015 to 2028+.
ST9393 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Jul/Aug 2013
Bright ruby-red. Heady, floral- and spice-accented aromas of raspberry, cherry-cola, lavender and musky herbs. Stains the palate with sweet red fruit liqueur flavors that are given depth by notes of licorice and espresso. Smooth, seamless and spicy on the finish, with excellent clarity and persistence.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 15, 2013
Supple and focused, with juicy raspberry and plum flavors that complement the polished tannins, revealing a hint of caramel on the lingering, expressive finish. Grenache, Shiraz, Graciano, Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2017. 80 cases imported.

Where It's From

Region / South Australia

View more wines from South Australia

South Australia has a warm climate with little precipitation during the growing season, making it difficult for winemakers to irrigate their vineyards. This means smaller yields for the farmers, but the stress on the vines from the shortages of water also results in a higher quality fruit. For that reason, many of Australia's best wines come from South Australia and it's best known district, Barossa Valley. You'll find lots of Shiraz in South Australia, naturally, but you'll also find some great Cabernets, Rieslings, and Chardonnays.

When casual wine drinkers think of Australian wine, they probably think of the critter-laden labels of Yellow Tail and The Little Penguin, among others. And while large wine companies dominate the Australian list, there are also a great number of smaller producers creating highly-rated, award-winning wines.

The majority of Australian wine is produced in South Australia, with most of that (those “critter wines”) carrying a South Eastern Australia appellation. Subregions such as Barossa Valley, Coonawarra and McLaren Vale are home to smaller producers and higher quality wines. Victoria and New South Wales are also significant regions, and wines from Western Australia are reaching America in increasing numbers.

Though Shiraz is the grape most associated with Australia, they’ve also had great success with Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling and Grenache.
