From the Producer

The Spur 2019 is crafted from blending the classic Bordeaux varietals with Petite Sirah, which offers a distinctively California expression. Each varietal is farmed, harvested, and handcrafted individually to achieve their greatest expression prior to assembling the final blend. The 2019 vintage provides an aromatic profile of black cherry, spiced cranberry and subtle oak with complementary notes of graham cracker and clove. The dark fruit aromas carry through to the palate which is framed by fine tannins, and a rich, lasting, and elegant mouthfeel. Enjoy through 2027.

Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic Pride wire. Effusive aromatics meld into a core of dark blue/purplish fruit. Medium in body, but with terrific depth, 2019 has a lot going on. This is an especially refined vintage for the Cabernet Sauvignon. All the elements are so nicely balanced. Cedar, tobacco, licorice and dried herbs linger. (Antonio Galloni)
JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 2/16/2023
I loved the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, a classic, impeccably made Cabernet offering plenty of darker blue, plummy fruits, some classic Cabernet herbal and cedary nuances, medium body, soft tannins, and a great finish. Drink bottles any time over the coming 10–12 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a huge, opulent wine. A blast of inky dark fruit, chocolate, spice, plum and menthol gives the 2019 its racy, extroverted personality. The Estate is a typical wine from Cade that balances Howell Mountain intensity with plenty of Napa Valley lushness. The 2019 is sure to be a crowd pleaser. (Antonio Galloni)
JD9595 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is even better, with a stunning nose of black and blue fruits as well as iron, black olive tapenade, and subtle herbal nuances. Pure 2019 goodness on the palate, it’s full-bodied, has ripe, polished tannins, a great mid-palate, and one heck of a finish. It’s not for those looking for old school Claret, but it brings beautiful richness and depth and will shine for at least 10–12 years as well. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2021
The 2019 Cade Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is blended of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec. Deep garnet-purple in color, it charges out of the glass with vibrant black cherry preserves, wild blueberries and mulberries scents, giving way to a core of cassis and star anise plus a waft of chocolate box. Full-bodied, concentrated and packed with bright black fruits, it has a fine-grained texture and long, energetic finish. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2023
This is packed with steeped plum and blackberry fruit paste notes mixed with tar, roasted apple wood and warm earth. A racy savory stripe is nicely buried through the finish, where a violet echo lingers. Best from 2024 through 2036. 14,670 cases made. (James Molesworth)

While the Grand Vin gets all the attention, don’t miss the 2019 M. Étain. This cuvee offers so much pleasure, and it also has a unique style all its own. Based on 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec, 4% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot, its deep purple color is followed by a great bouquet of cassis, violets, leafy herbs, black olive, and crushed stone. Full-bodied, it has a terrific mix of richness and freshness, ripe tannins, and a great finish. While it’s a second wine at this address, it’s as good as just about everyone else’s top cuvée. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2021
The 2019 M. Étain is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it sashays out of the glass with notes of violets, fallen leaves and incense over a warm cassis and plum preserves core, plus a waft of cardamom. Full-bodied, the ripe, opulent black fruit preserve flavors are beautifully framed by firm, grainy tannins and a lively backbone, finishing long and seductively spicy. 2,600 cases were made. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon M. Étain is absolutely gorgeous. Intense in its aromatics, the 2019 is laced with spice, blood orange and floral accents. Broad and resonant, the 2019 is definitely voluptuous, but also less heavy than some previous editions. Readers will have a hard time keeping their hands off this gem. While M. Étain is a sibling to Scarecrow, it is very clearly more pedigreed than many estates’ top wines and increasingly of note on its own.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2022
Offers a nice dark, winey core of currant, plum and black cherry fruit melded steadily with licorice snap, roasted alder and a twinge of loam through the finish. A bit grippy on the back end, but this has the requisite fruit for balance. Best from 2023 through 2036. 2,600 cases made. (James Molesworth)

Fresh, direct and focused, with red currant and cherry coulis notes that race through, dotted with savory, floral and tobacco accents. Judicious toast lets the fruit play out, and there’s solid energy throughout. Drink now through 2030. 44,700 cases made. (James Molesworth)

Redcurrant and tile with some clove. Dark stone, too. Medium-bodied with some fresh herbs and dried thyme. Medium, ripe tannins. Fresh, creamy finish. A blend of 93% cabernet sauvignon with petite sirah and cabernet franc. Drink or hold.
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2022
This well-balanced, moderately tannic wine offers black fruits, oak spice and a lightly gripping texture, all in good proportions. It’s a pleasurable wine that shows the typical, attractive black cherries, black olives and hints of baking spices. (Jim Gordon)

A very attractive red now, with complexity and yummy drinkability. It’s medium-bodied with medium, round tannins that are fresh and more-ish. It’s dusty and lightly earthy with dark currants as well as tobacco. So much going on, in a subtle and refreshing way. 85% cabernet sauvignon, 10% petit verdot, and 5% malbec. Drink or hold.
WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2022
Deep black-fruit flavors, moderate tannins and a sense of good density make this wine from one of Napa’s oldest producers impressive. Cloves, cedar, blackberries and a touch of anise combine for good complexity on the palate. Best from 2026–2032. (Jim Gordon)
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2022
Juicy and relatively open-knit, with a gush of blackberry, black cherry and plum compote flavors taking the lead, followed by hints of licorice and apple wood. Shows a nice racy edge through the finish. Drink now through 2033. 10,152 cases made. (James Molesworth)
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Sep 2022
The first wine in the progression that really speaks to the winery’s Rutherford roots, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Reserve is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Malbec that boasts aromas of ripe cherries, accented by baking spices, subtle cedar notes and a hint of mint. It’s medium to full-bodied on the palate, showing off the silky, fine-grained tannins typical of the region, finishing long and softly dusty, with a hint of cocoa. (Joe Czerwinski)
