Brilliant red. Lively, spice-accented red fruits and pungent flowers on the incisive nose. Taut and focused on the palate, offering fresh redcurrant and strawberry flavors that unfurl slowly through the back half. Finishes long and tangy with repeating spiciness; subtle tannins add a firm grip.

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

Lithe, offering cherry preserves and damson plum mixed with hints of lacy black tea and singed anise. Modest in scale but with good energy through the finish, delivering a nice hint of dark earth at the very end. Drink now through 2026. 18,500 cases made. (James Molesworth)

The 2019 Pinot Noir The North Slope Vineyard offers lovely mid-palate depth to play off strong floral, savory notes. I find the North Slope a bit uncharacteristic in its vegetal character, which I suspect is related to machine harvesting for some of this fruit.

RP95+95+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Dec 2022
Medium ruby, the 2019 Pinot Noir Estate offers impressive aromatic layering and detail, evolving as it spends time in the glass from cranberry and burnt orange peel to violet, tea leaves, pipe tobacco and aniseed. The medium-bodied palate is tangy and ultra fresh, with a chalky frame and loads of citrus, earth and herbal touches fanning across the finish. It takes significant time to really open up, and I suspect it has more to give with another 2–3+ years in bottle. (Erin Brooks)

Opulent aromas of baked black cherry, star anise, cardamom and thyme make for a rich entry to the nose of this bottling. The palate, meanwhile, is framed with grippy, chalky tannins, giving a firm structure to the raspberry, cherry, dark herb and loamy earthy flavors. Drink through 2039. (Matt Kettmann)

This mix of 56% Grenache, 37% Syrah and 7% Tempranillo is extra-fresh upon opening the twist-top bottle, showing aromas of raspberry, sagebrush and white pepper. The palate also combines fresh red fruit, pepper and herbs, making for a zesty sip.

Vivid magenta. High-pitched red berry and cherry aromas and flavors are complemented by building floral and spice nuances. Juicy and nicely focused, with a touch of warmth on the gently tannic, spice-tinged finish. Raised in all French oak, 10% of it new.
SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2019
Easygoing and discreetly zesty, with floral raspberry and spicy vanilla flavors. Grenache, Syrah and Tempranillo. Drink now through 2023. 5,320 cases made.

Fresh and subtle aromas of raspberry, roasted tomato and a hint of basil pop on the nose of this bottling. There’s a vibrant acidity and grippy structure to the sip, where herb-sprinkled plum and cracked pepper flavors align.
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2021
There’s lithe creaminess to the fruity and refined flavors of cherry and dried strawberry that are backed by fresh acidity, with accents of slate and spice on the juicy finish. Drink now through 2024. 748 cases made.
