Critical Acclaim

SP90 Wine Spectator Apr 30, 2009

"Ripe in flavor and jazzy in style, with boysenberry and gentle tarry flavors gliding smoothly over polished tannins and lingering on the harmonious finish. Drink now through 2012." (90 pts.)

RP91 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 28th Feb 2009

"The higher-end wines begin with the 2007 G.A.M. Shiraz. Purple-colored, it offers an alluring bouquet of spice box, black cherry, blueberry, and a hint of chocolate. This leads to a concentrated, ripe, layered wine with excellent depth and length. Already complex, it will continue to evolve with another several years of cellaring. Drink it from 2011 to 2020." (91 pts.)

ST91 Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar Sep/Oct 2009

"Inky violet color. Seductively perfumed scents of blackberry, mulberry, candied plum and smoky Indian spices. Ripe, fleshy and gently sweet, offering assertive dark berry and anise flavors and slow-building tannins. Repeats the anise and mulberry notes on the long, sappy, alluringly spicy, peppery finish,. This wine is already showing very good complexity." (91 pts.)

South Australia

South Australia has a warm climate with little precipitation during the growing season, making it difficult for winemakers to irrigate their vineyards. This means smaller yields for the farmers, but the stress on the vines from the shortages of water also results in a higher quality fruit. For that reason, many of Australia's best wines come from South Australia and it's best known district, Barossa Valley. You'll find lots of Shiraz in South Australia, naturally, but you'll also find some great Cabernets, Rieslings, and Chardonnays.

Australia

When casual wine drinkers think of Australian wine, they probably think of the critter-laden labels of Yellow Tail and The Little Penguin, among others. And while large wine companies dominate the Australian list, there are also a great number of smaller producers creating highly-rated, award-winning wines.

The majority of Australian wine is produced in South Australia, with most of that (those “critter wines”) carrying a South Eastern Australia appellation. Subregions such as Barossa Valley, Coonawarra and McLaren Vale are home to smaller producers and higher quality wines. Victoria and New South Wales are also significant regions, and wines from Western Australia are reaching America in increasing numbers.

Though Shiraz is the grape most associated with Australia, they’ve also had great success with Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling and Grenache.
