Critical Acclaim

SP95 Wine Spectator Jul 31, 2018

"Beautiful on the nose, with ample ripe fruit and spice notes that follow through to the palate of crushed black raspberry and black currant, Earl Grey tea leaf and dried tea rose flavors. Though expressive now, there’s a dense core of fine-grained tannins that should give this the stuffing to age. Firm finish. Best from 2020 through 2033. 1,300 cases made, 100 cases imported." (95 pts.)

WE94 Wine Enthusiast 3/1/2019

"Enticing scents of cocoa, blackberry preserve, new leather and baking spice fill the glass. The full-bodied palate combines velvety finesse and power, delivering spiced plum, raisin, clove and tobacco set against polished fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity lifts the rich flavors while a licorice note lingers on the close. Drink 2021–2031." (94 pts.)

WS95 Wine & Spirits February 1, 2019

"Campolongo di Torbe sits at about 1,200 feet above sea level in Valpolicella’s Negrar commune, where the vines benefit from cooling breezes; this was especially so in the warm 2011 vintage, when Masi harvested about three weeks earlier than average. This wine, made from dried grapes, aged for three years in Slavonian botti and 600-liter casks, developing a voluptuous texture and rich flavors of spiced black plum and cherry. It layers notes of fresh tobacco, licorice and roasted coffee with velvety tannins, the wine remarkably integrated for a young Amarone. Delicious now, it has the structure and complexity to improve for more than a decade." (95 pts.)

JS97 JamesSuckling.com Monday, December 17, 2018

"Fascinating aromas of dark fruits, orange peel and rose petals follow through to a full body. Round and velvety tannins and a gorgeous finish. Hints of clovers and green peppers. Shows strength at the finish. Drink now." (97 pts.)

Veneto

Veneto, in northeastern Italy, is home to some of the most celebrated Italian wines, including Amarone red wines. The cities Verona and Venice fall within Veneto, and the areas surrounding Verona in western Veneto is where you'll find Amarone and Valpolicella production. Western Veneto also produces some fantastic white wines, like Soave. Meanwhile, the eastern part of Veneto has something worth celebrating, as well, as that's where Prosecco comes from.

Italy

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.
