Lamoreaux Landing Red Oak Vineyard Riesling 2019 / 750 ml.

Item#: 98946

WS9191 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 08/21
This riesling started off terpenic and mineral, its savory character seeming to muffle its fruit. But after several days the wine’s juicy citrus and apple components emerged, the terpenes receded, and the texture became elegant and composed, with a tangy, vibrant, lasting finish.
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th May 2022
The 2019 Riesling Red Oak Vineyard comes in with 16 grams of residual sugar, 8.8 of total acidity and 11.9% alcohol. Lively, fresh and gloriously sunny, this doesn’t have the concentration of the 2019 Riesling Reserve, but its lighter style creates a much fresher wine that dances over the palate. That leads to tension and sugar both getting along nicely on the tasty and juicy finish. This looks like another winner for Lamoreaux Landing in this vintage. It should hold well and develop more, but it drinks great now too. (Mark Squires)

District / Finger Lakes

View more wines from Finger Lakes

Officially established in 1982, the Finger Lakes region has a storied history of wine production in New York State and is recognized the world over. The deep glacially formed lakes offer sublime growing conditions thanks to the sloping hillsides and moderating effect the lakes have on the temperature of the surrounding area.

The main growing regions are centered around Cayuga Lake and Seneca Lake (which each have their own AVAs) but quality wine is being made throughout the region. Riesling is the belle of the ball in the Finger Lakes (oftentimes being compared to the Rieslings of Germany) but success has been had with Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, and others.

New York is now producing some of the world's best Rieslings and Pinot Noirs, and there are lots of other terrific wines made from grapes like Catawba, Niagara, Cabernet Franc and others being produced here, as well. Every year, the quality, reputation, and demand for New York wines continue to soar. What are you waiting for? Uncork New York!

View more wines from United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

The 2018 Cabernet Franc was aged in 30% new American oak and comes in at just 11.5% alcohol. Probably a bit thin and somewhat pale in color, this gets most of its flavor from the new wood, while the fruit is hard to find. That said, I’ll concede that it tastes pretty good anyway in its mint-and-coconut demeanor, and there is still decent structure here. It doesn’t taste much like Cab Franc, though. While it is probably well off the norm, it’s not a bad off-vintage effort. Its good structure will help it along. It should pair well with appropriate foods at the table. For sure, it’s not a simple sipper. There were 1,313 cases produced.

A plump, easygoing style, with lime gelee and McIntosh apple notes mixed with a hint of anise. Drink now. (James Molesworth)

Subtle notes of candied citrus and stone fruit and honey lead to a palate that’s off-dry, with more honeyed fruit notes, but with a welcome lift of crisp acidity for freshness and drinkability. Drink with spicy chili pepper-heavy dishes. (Christina Pickard)

Aromas of lemon and pear meld with a slightly brûléed lemon tone, which adds richness and depth to the nose. There’s a subtle creaminess to the delicate palate, with pear, apple and citrus flavors pushed along by balanced acidity.

RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 3rd Jun 2021
The 2019 Dry Riesling “Margrit” comes in with 7.39 grams of residual sugar and 9.7 of total acidity, plus 12.8% alcohol. That is dry. This is sourced from a single vineyard on Seneca Lake, owned by the winery, that was planted in 2008. The winery says the site is somewhat warmer than their Keuka Lake properties, producing a riper wine. A big step up over the last I saw, this has power but also a juicy finish that displays fine fruit. As powerful as it is, it not just an acid-freak wine. That long finish is gripping and tense. The aromatics are powerful too, while the mid-palate is simply solid. This food-wine Riesling shows every sign of improving over the next decade. It may have layers yet to reveal. Giving it a year or so of cellar time would be a good idea.

Sourced from a vineyard on Seneca Lake, this wine offers a stony, earthy core surrounded by citrus and apple tones on the nose. The palate is broad and juicy yet dry in style, with honed lemon, pome fruit and crushed stone elements zipping along. (Alexander Peartree)

Zippy from the start, with pippin apple and slate notes backed a pinch of lime zest on the dry finish. Drink now through 2025. 375 cases made. (James Molesworth)
