When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2018
The 2016 IX Syrah Estate is very deep purple-black colored with gorgeous blackberry preserves, preserved plums, chargrill and licorice with tar, mandarin peel, Sichuan pepper and violets plus a compelling peach blossom note and a waft of wild sage. The palate is full-bodied with fantastic finesse, so plush and light on its feet and very spicy on the long, long finish.
JS9797 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, May 3, 2019
This is so beautiful now and touches every millimeter of your palate with dark berries, nutmeg, hazelnuts, light chocolate, meat and smoke. Wonderful depth and length to this. Drink or hold.
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Dec 2018
The 2016 Syrah IX Estate is dense, super-powerful and concentrated. In 2016, the Syrah is first and foremost a wine of IX Estate. Dark and brooding in the glass, with tremendous fruit intensity, the 2016 is superb. Varietal aromatics carry through to the energetic, vivid finish.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2019
Dynamic and multilayered, with polished blackberry and cured meat flavors, revealing mint hints in the background, building toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2027. 470 cases made. (Tim Fish)

Dark red cherries, spices, licorice and plum notes abound in Kendall Jackson’s 2012 Pinot Noir Grand Reserve. Drink this soft, racy, beautifully textured Pinot over the next few years. This is another terrific showing.
RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Dec 2013
The 2012 Pinot Noir Grand Reserve, a Monterey and Santa Barbara cross-county blend, spent nine months in 92% French oak (40% new). It is a much earthier, foresty style of Pinot Noir displaying a composty, autumnal, vegetative character along with pretty cherry fruit, spices and herbs. Medium-bodied and well-made, it should be drunk over the next several years.

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jul 2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Reserve is blended with 7% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot and was matured for 15 months in 30% new French oak. It has a deep ruby-purple color and pretty accents of cinnamon, violet, leather, dried herbs and bitter chocolate complementing cassis fruit. The full-bodied palate is concentrated yet fresh, with finely grained tannins, pure flavors and a very long finish. Give it another 3–5 years in bottle. 30,000 cases produced. (Erin Brooks)
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 8/2/2022
Classic aromas of cedar and spice emerge from the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Reserve, followed by notes of black cherry fruit and graphite. The palate is full-bodied and fruit-forward, with blackcurrant, fresh soil, and cocoa powder. Ripe tannins emerging from the fruit, and the wine has a fairly long finish. Drink it now or over the next 8 years. (Audrey Frick)
SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jun 2, 2022
Solid, with a core of steeped plum and blackberry fruit lined with singed cocoa and tobacco accents. Modest in scale, but nicely balanced. Drink now through 2025. 35,000 cases made. (James Molesworth)
