Item#: 98939

JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, August 9, 2022
Aromas of pie crust, pink grapefruit and flint. Full-bodied with lovely nutty character. Creamy, too. Nicely balanced and concentrated. Drink now.
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jul 2022
The 2020 Chardonnay Russian River Valley was matured for eight months in about 18% new oak and underwent full malolactic conversion. “Chardonnay picked up less smoke than other varieties,” explains head winemaker Nicole Hitchcock. “We harvested the Chardonnay earlier but did not change our winemaking approach. We have our own internal labs, so we were able to run our own analysis for smoke markers.” It has layered aromas of quince, white peaches, honey and graham cracker with floral nuances. The medium-bodied palate is creamy and concentrated, with banana-laced flavors and a long, honeyed finish. It has some notable phenolic texture and may show its best in the near term. (Erin Brooks)
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 31, 2022
A note of vanilla custard and a touch of salted Greek yogurt add a rich and creamy side to the apricot and mango curd flavors. Creamy on the finish, with a note of dried ginger. Drink now. 9,800 cases made. (MaryAnn Worobiec)

Some text about the Russian River Valley.

District / Sonoma County

View more wines from Sonoma County

Sonoma County, just north of San Francisco is one of California's most famous wine districts. While sometimes overshadowed by the reputation of its rival and neighbor, Napa Valley, Sonoma County has a longer history of viticulture and is twice the size of the former.

Thanks in part to a strong diversity of climates within Sonoma County, the district is home to outstanding examples from a whole host of grapes. Sonoma County Pinot Noirs are considered some of the finest in the state, and the Dry Creek Valley Zinfandels are remarkable. Chardonnays come in a variety of styles thanks to the varying temperatures in Sonoma County, and Cabernets and Merlots also thrive here.

Some of the more celebrated viticultural areas in Sonoma County include Sonoma Mountain, Sonoma Coast, Chalk Hill, Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, and Carneros (parts of which fall within Napa Valley).

Region / California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

Country / United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Earthy, seductive and soft, this well-made wine offers tones of forest floor, pomegranate and strawberry. It delivers plenty of flavor beneath a delicately crafted body.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Jan 2019
The pale to medium ruby-purple colored 2016 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley was aged for nine months in 38% new French oak. It sings of violets, black tea and chocolate-covered cherries with hints of cranberries, redcurrants and underbrush with a waft of wild sage. Medium-bodied, elegant and wonderfully perfumed in the mouth, it has a finely grained texture and a long, nuanced finish. 18,000 cases produced.

A dense, layered white with cooked-apple and banana character. Lightly toasted oak with some bitterness. Medium to full body. Flavorful finish. Complex. Drink now.
WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - October 1, 2020
As toasty as this wine’s puff-pastry scent may be, the fruit itself is fresh and fragrant, with clean apricot flavors and the zingy tartness of peach near the pit. Knock out the toasty oak with something grilled, like chicken sausages.

The 2020 Chardonnay has a detailed, pretty perfume of white peaches and quince, with touches of lemongrass, green herbs and white flowers. The medium-bodied palate is satiny and fragrant, with a supporting streak of fresh acidity, and there’s a touch of phenolic texture that draws out the long finish. (Erin Brooks)
