Critical Acclaim

JD95 Jeb Dunnuck December 29, 2017

"A blend of 81% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec that’s packed in a huge, embossed bottle, the 2015 Signature Mountain Blend offers a killer perfume of plums, blueberries, vanilla oak and damp earth. It’s sexy, opulent and rounded on the palate, and is reminiscent of a top-flight Pomerol. With sweet tannin and a big midpalate, it’s approachable today, yet should be at its finest from 2020–2035. (Jeb Dunnuck)" (95 pts.)

WE93 Wine Enthusiast 11/1/2018

"Small producer Ralph Hertelendy blends 81% Merlot with smaller percentages of other red Bordeaux grapes from a variety of sites across the valley in this well-made, complex wine. Char, smoked meat, juicy currant and cranberry are set against tight compressed tannins and intense oak, suggesting more time in bottle. Enjoy best 2025–2030." (93 pts.)

RP92 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 31st Oct 2017

"A deep purple-black colored blend of 81% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec, the 2015 Signature Mountain Blend has a spicy plums and baked cherries nose with blackberry compote, dusty earth and incense hints plus dried leaves and cedar. Soft and spicy in the medium to full-bodied mouth, it finishes just a little hollow and abrupt." (92 pts.)

SP89 Wine Spectator Web only – 2019

"Big, with brambly red fruit flavors, focused and filled with dried beef notes. Mocha details show on the finish. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Drink now through 2021. 283 cases made." (89 pts.)

Napa Valley

Napa Valley is California's -- and America's -- most famous and celebrated wine district. Located north of San Francisco, Napa Valley is most famous for its world-class Cabernets and Chardonnays. The region's acclaim officially took off following a 1976 tasting in Paris when renowned judges chose a Napa Chardonnay and Cabernet over top French wines made from the same grapes.

Most wineries in the region produce either a Chardonnay or a Cabernet, and usually it's both. Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel are also grown with success in Napa Valley. You'll likely recognize the names of some of the viticultural areas within Napa Valley, including St. Helena, Stag's Leap and Carneros.

California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.
