Critical Acclaim
WE90+Wine Enthusiast 5/8/2006
"The aroma is a sweet/sour, tangerine/Mandarine orange perfume that never stops enchanting. At the palate entry the orange zest’s acidity mingles gracefully with the Cognac’s alcohol, making for delicious drinking. Satiny finish." (90–95 pts.)

"Medium amber in color; the aromas are distinctly bitter orange zest with some pears lurking in the backdrop. The body is big, oily, and creamy, and the palate — sweet but not overly sweet — follows the nose precisely. The finish is long, and here we find a delightful peppery characteristic that rounds out the experience." (89 pts.)

"Goldenrod-orange color. Unique, sweet-sour bouquet of mandarin orange and a hint of Cognac. Supple, satiny on tongue; tastes of orange zest and sinewy Cognac; the alcohol-acid-fruit harmony is seamless. A timeless liqueur." (90–95 pts.)
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2012 Despite its overuse among college students as a get-drunk-quick shooter to cascade down ice luges, this is excellent digestif material for grown-ups too. This ruddy, herbal spirit is dominated by licorice and clove flavors, with a faint, bracingly bitter tinge in the medium-bodied mouth and on the finish. The college crowd got one thing right, though: Jäger is best icy cold.
WE85+85–89 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2004 Starts out concentrated, coffee bean- and kernel-like in the aroma, which turns more cocoa/dark chocolate-like with aeration. Palate entry is creamy, thick and intensely black coffee-like; at midpalate, the sweetness accelerates and includes toasty flavors of roasted nuts and tar. Ends sweet, rich and properly coffee-like.
