Finca Torremilanos Cyclo

2019 / 750 ml.

Item #: 804

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Jan 2023
The red blend 2019 Cyclo was produced with Tempranillo and some 10% between Garnacha, Cariñena, Viura and Albillo. It fermented with full clusters in concrete and indigenous yeasts, foot trodden, and it matured in oak barrels. It’s quite ripe and heady at 15% alcohol with generous oak, spice and smoke and quite a lot of tannin. It’s still tannic. Give it some more time. 10,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2021. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Pesquera Crianza

JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, September 18, 2023
Creamy oak spices and chocolate that have integrated with the dark cherry and blackberry fruit. Chewy on the full-bodied palate with tight wood tannins that need a few years to integrate. That said, there is enough intensity and weight to hold this structure. Better from 2025. (Zekun Shuai)

RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Jan 2023
The juicy, velvety and aromatic red 2020 Pícaro del Águila Tinto is fine-boned and quite faithfully represents what they want to express with this cuvée; it’s very tasty and has some chalkiness (perhaps through less ripeness than in years like 2018) with 14% alcohol and mellow acidity. The nose reveals some Côte-Rôtie-like notes of smoked meat and violets. 2020 delivered a good crop of healthy grapes that produced the finest wine to date for this bottling. This is superb, elegant and powerful, with everything in place (seems to be the signature of 2020) and perfectly integrated oak. 71,382 bottles and 1,979 magnums produced. It was bottled in September 2021. (Luis Gutiérrez)

RP100100 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Jan 2023
The youth, freshness, balance and harmony of the 2016 Peñas Aladas Gran Reserva is gobsmacking. The wine is a little shy, insinuating, reticent and a little closed, and it feels younger than it is. It comes from a collection of small plots of some of the oldest vines in the village of La Aguilera in the lieu-dit, or “paraje,” that names the wine, in a small valley surrounded by pine, holm and juniper trees, where there is a cold draft of air and the temperature is lower than in the rest of the village. The soils are sandy and intermixed with clay on a marl mother rock. The plants are mostly Tempranillo, but as they are very old vines, there’s always a field blend of other varieties—Albillo Mayor, Monastrell, Garnacha, Bobal and Cariñena—all fermented together with full clusters that were foot trodden in concrete vats and indigenous yeasts. Malolactic was in barrel and lasted for 11 months, while the élevage was extended to a total of 55 months (almost five years!). After all this time in barrels, the wine is not oaky at all; it’s floral and perfumed, elegant, nuanced and layered. The texture is silky, and it’s medium-bodied, with moderate ripeness, 14% alcohol and very good freshness denoted by a pH of 3.41. It has fine tannins that make it nicely textured and fine-boned, with subtle minerality. This should be veeeeeery long lived, as it has the stuffing, all the ingredients and the balance between them to make old bones. Amazing juice. 3,591 bottles and 51 magnums were filled in April 2021. Artadi Viñas de Gain

2019 / 750 ml.

Item #: 98217

RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jul 2022
The young red 2019 Viñas de Gaín was produced with Tempranillo grapes from different vineyards in Laguardia and Elvillar at 450 to 700 meters in altitude, and it fermented in oak and stainless steel vats followed by malolactic in barrel and an élevage in barrel for nine months. They aimed for a fresh, fruit-driven and juicy red that comes from a low-yielding year, so the wine is concentrated but keeps the approachable style. It has nice balance. In warmer and riper years, they do shorter macerations at lower temperature and a short élevage to keep the aromatic and fruit-driven character, avoiding heavy wines. This is always a very good value within the Artadi range. 90,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2020. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Remelluri Reserva

Item #: 99739

RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 19th Aug 2021
The estate red 2015 Reserva was produced with Tempranillo, Garnacha and Graciano from their 86 hectares of vineyards. It’s from an early harvest after a warm and dry year that achieved perfect ripeness with some rain at the end of the cycle. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and oak vats and matured in barrel for 21 months. It combines youth with development, power with elegance and comes through as clean and defined, with a medium to full-bodied palate, focused flavors and a dry but lively finish. 259,400 bottles produced. It was bottled in April and May 2018. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Los Cantos de Torremilanos

2019 / 750 ml.

Item #: 93501

RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Jan 2023
2019 was warm and dry, and the wines are powerful and quite tannic, as I see in the 2019 Los Cantos de Torremilanos, which coupled with a longer élevage (15 months in barrel) resulted in a tougher wine. It has concentration from low yields and keeps the freshness but with a dry finish and not enough fat. This is 100% Tempranillo; it was not a year for Merlot, which in other vintages represents a small percentage of this wine. This was bottled in January 2021, also because there was no availability of bottles… (Luis Gutiérrez)

The clean and fruit-driven 2020 Cuvée KPF from Rioja Alavesa is from Labastida and matured in French and American oak barrels for six months. It’s a special cuvée for their US importer Kysela. It has a fruit-driven profile with some spice, 13.9% alcohol and a medium-bodied palate with a juicy texture and fine tannins. 200,000 bottles produced. (Luis Gutiérrez)

A very complex, aged Rioja with savory plums, mushrooms, bark, red earth, orange peel and cedar. Quite juicy, fresh and bright on the palate with a tangy, zesty palate, full of berries and oranges. Firm, long and complex with a mouthwatering finish. Such a traditional taste! Drink now or hold.
RP92+92+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jul 2022
2011 was a warmer and riper year, but there’s not a huge difference between the 2011 Viña Bosconia Reserva and the 2010; this is perhaps mellower, with more integrated acidity. It’s 13.5% alcohol with a pH of 3.3 and 6.7 grams of acidity measured in tartaric acid per liter, and it fermented in the 144-year-old oak vats and matured in used American oak barrels for five years. 88,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2018. (Luis Gutiérrez)

High-toned, floral aromas with orange peel and crushed blackberries. Medium-bodied with tight, chewy tannins that are polished and intense. Serious length and focus. Vegan. Very drinkable now, but even better in 2024. (James Suckling)
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jul 2022
The fruit-driven, ripe and heady 2019 Viña Real Crianza was produced with 90% Tempranillo and the rest between Garnacha Tinta, Mazuelo and Graciano from a vineyard in the Sonsierra zone (call it Rioja Alavesa if you like). It has 13.75% alcohol and a pH of 3.6 and is polished and easy to understand and like. It has plenty of tannins; it calls for food. The oak is soft and integrated. They produced 650,000 bottles of this wine, which is bottled in four different lots. (Luis Gutiérrez)

The creamy 2014 Señorío de P. Peciña Reserva has abundant balsamic notes, hints of incense and cigar ash and plenty of spices and a smoky touch combined with candied fruit and a sharp mouthfeel, like the élevage of three years in used American oak barrels was a bit rough with the more delicate fruit from 2014. 42,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2018. It’s ready now, and it’s not a Reserva for the very long haul. (Luis Gutiérrez)

SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2022
A well-knit, medium-bodied red, with light, taut tannins trimming notes of crushed black cherry, baked fig and hints of dark chocolate, tobacco and mineral.
