This well-structured but sleek Bordeaux blend from the Central Coast is brimming with sour-cherry and blackberry aromas. The gentle tannins are already well integrated and this has a very food-friendly balance. With a little more concentration, it would rate even higher. Drink or hold.

Why Can't We Ship This Item?
Either the bottle is too large for our packaging (i.e. we cannot ship anything larger than 750 ml), the dimensions/shape of the bottle doesn't fit within our packaging for safe shipment, or this is a widely-distributed wine (e.g. Barefoot, Yellow Tail, etc) which we only sell at our physical store or for in-store pickup.

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

Napa Valley Red Wine
2016 / 750 ml.
A blend of Bordeaux varieties, the 2016 M by Marciano displays a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It is a little youthfully subdued to begin, opening with delicate notions of fresh mulberries, black cherries and warm blackcurrants with hints of raspberry leaves, forest floor, violets and black tea plus touches of cedar chest and charcoal. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has fantastic energy, with layers of black fruits and earthy sparks supported by lovely freshness and a solid grainy texture, finishing long with an herbal lift.
Juicy, with dark currant and blackberry fruit showing good energy, while light charcoal, tobacco and roasted cedar notes fill in through the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2020 through 2026. 385 cases made. (James Molesworth)

The 2016 Melbury is powerful and yet medium in body, with layers of exotic spice, dark red cherry, blood orange, leather, licorice and star anise that give it an exotic character I don’t remember seeing in the past. Despite its mid-weight profile, the Melbury has plenty of supporting structure. Over the last year, the Melbury has gained a bit of weight, but remains quite focused. Sometimes the Melbury suffers by being the first vineyard-designate poured at Bond. Its remarkable allure is evident nonetheless. This is an impressive showing.
Overlooking Lake Hennessy up on Pritchard Hill, Melbury vineyard has produced a beautifully elegant and vivacious signature in 2016, which clearly reveals the personality that this incredible site tends to want to give. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Melbury comes bounding out of the glass with expressive black and red currants notes followed by wild blueberries, warm plums, pencil shavings and wild sage plus wafts of lavender and crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is practically electric with energetic fruit, framed by firm, grainy tannins and invigorating freshness, finishing long and minerally.
Featuring currant and fig notes, this offers a juicy, slightly rounded feel, revealing melted licorice, sweet tobacco and warm gravel accents along the way. Shows most of its muscle on the finish and shuts down a bit in the glass, indicating that cellaring is required. Best from 2022 through 2040. 370 cases made. (James Molesworth)

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
2016 / 750 ml.
The deep purple-black colored 2016 Nomad Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane is a little youthfully subdued to begin, opening out to reveal tantalizing glimpses of baked redcurrants, cassis, chocolate-covered cherries and mulberries with nuances of crushed rocks, tilled black soil and violets. Full-bodied and sporting layers of tightly wound black fruits and earth-inspired flavors, it has a firm, fine-grained frame and a very long, multifaceted finish. A stunning expression of Dr. Crane!
This is a tart, tangy and tense red from the legendary vineyard, soft and velvety lush on the midpalate. Caramelized oak cradles baked cherry and cranberry, the layers complex and lengthy with seasonings of clove and nutmeg. Enjoy 2021–2030.
A flicker of savory adds lift and energy to the waves of warmed plum, cassis and cherry preserves that glide through. The structure is polished, the finish long, with an anise note checking in at the end. Drink now through 2030. 190 cases made. (James Molesworth)

2016 / 750 ml.
Aromas of blackberries, black truffles, burnt orange peel, forest floor and blueberries. Decadent. Full to medium body. The tannins are so tight and dense with super fine and caressing texture. An amazing, mesmerizing wine. Drinkable and glorious, but better after 2022.
The 2016 IX Proprietary Red Estate is a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple, it comes strutting out of the glass with flamboyant Black Forest cake, blueberry compote and plum pudding notions plus hints of spice cake, unsmoked cigars, menthol, licorice and dusty soil and accented by wafts of tar and black tea. The palate is full-bodied yet incredibly poised and vibrant with amazing freshness and very fine-grained, very firm tannins. It possesses the most provocative earthy sparks, providing arresting depth to the very long, beautifully perfumed finish. Stunning.
The 2016 IX Estate is a total knock-out. A wine of exceptional balance and harmony, the 2016 is stunning from the very first taste. Nothing really stands out. Instead, it is the wine’s sense of proportion that makes the most lasting impression. Seamless, layered and voluptuous to the core, the 2016 has so much to offer. Bright Pritchard Hill acids and minerality are felt on the persistent, beautifully sculpted finish.
Lush and warm in feel, with gorgeous fig, black currant and dark plum fruit that rolls through in harmonious waves against a backdrop of loam, alder and smoldering cast iron notes. Not shy on power, latent cut and inner freshness, this just needs time to unwind fully. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2021 through 2038. 1,800 cases made. The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep garnet-purple color. Its nose begins a little reserved, slowly revealing a quiet intensity of freshly crushed blackberries, chocolate-covered cherries, cassis and aniseed with compelling nuances of black tea, cigar box, truffles and charcuterie, plus, with coaxing, gentle wafts of red roses and crushed rocks emerge. The medium to full-bodied palate is simply arresting, offering a a myriad floral and earth sparks amidst a black fruit core and with seamless, firm, very fine-grained tannins. Well-knit freshness brings forth layer after layer of delicate nuances on the very long, mineral-laced finish. The team at Eisele, led by Frédéric Engerer (of Chateau Latour) and beautifully orchestrated by winemaker Hélène Mingot, have knocked it out of the park this vintage with this singular expression that both embraces the site’s heritage and reveals parts unknown.
The aromas are so complex here with blackberries, blackcurrants, raspberries and orange peel. Juicy and deep with a polished and lush texture. Full-bodied yet supple and harmonious. Poised and extremely long. You really want to drink this now, but be patient. Try after 2024.
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon from Eisele Vineyard is simply monumental. Powerful and persistent, the 2016 marries intensity with finesse in the way only a wine from a world-class site can. Everything is just in the right place. Time in the glass brings out stunning richness in every dimension and truly exceptional pedigree. Dramatic and statuesque in its beauty, the 2016 is a towering Cabernet Sauvignon that shows why Eisele Vineyard is one of the world’s great vineyard sites. In a word: epic.
Ripe, broad and fleshy, this lets beautiful plum sauce and blackberry compote notes drape effortlessly over a tobacco- and loam-accented spine. The loamy edge drives through the finish with authority, while the fruit keeps cascading over it, ending very long and very deep. This has a beguiling aspect despite the enormous scale, but it should benefit from cellaring. A wine of the earth, through and through. Best from 2021 through 2035. 1,825 cases made. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot, the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Proprietary Red EE Tench Vineyard is scented of pure plums and ripe blueberries with redcurrants and touches of lavender, roses, bay leaves and dusty earth. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm, fine-grained, vibrant and refreshing, finishing long and perfumed. 1,403 cases produced.
Lifted aromatics give the 2016 Red Wine EE Tench Vineyard a dimension of breadth and expansiveness that is alluring. The red cherry, plum, mocha and spice flavors are racy in this dense, explosive wine. The EE is shaping up to be another gem from Russell Bevan.
Offers a lavish feel, with waves of crushed plum, blackberry and açaí berry flavors rolling forth, infused liberally with dark licorice, sweet toast and fruitcake notes. A late tug of dark earth keeps this just honest enough. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2020 through 2032. 1,403 cases made. (James Molesworth)

Marked by scents of bay leaf, sage, cherries and cassis, the full-bodied 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Trailside Vineyard is dense but with a classic linear Cabernet structure. Quite sculpted and fresh for valley-floor fruit, it’s focused and long on the finish, gently dusty but firm. Once a walnut grove, the vineyard extends from the Silverado Trail down toward the Napa River, with this bottling using fruit from both the rocky, lower bench section of the vineyard near the road and a sandier parcel closer to the river. (Joe Czerwinski)
Fresh, with racy red currant, Damson and red cherry fruit flavors running through. Flecked with light savory notes and hints of sassafras, with an iron note lacing the piercing finish. Latent grip too, so cellar for maximum effect. Drink now through 2035. 2,500 cases made. (James Molesworth)

Focused aromas of black plum, dried violet, soy and blood show on the slightly subdued nose of this bottling. There is more action on the palate, where savory beef-jerky and soy flavors meet with tart black-plum elements.
Lots of spice, mint, cedar, and assorted red and black fruits emerge from the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Family Reserve, an elegant, medium-bodied effort offering ripe tannins, good sweetness of fruit, and plenty of charm. It’s well-done, and I suspect it will keep for a solid 8–10 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
