Here is a Pinot-dominated blend (50% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay and 20% Meunier) which offers elegant, textural and expansive flavors. Multidimensional and poised, it pushes the Pinot to the fore, which brings extra fruit intensity and hints of fresh red berries. The finish is crisp and lingering.
The Delamotte NV Brut blends approximately 55% Chardonnay with 35% Pinot Noir and 10% Pinot Meunier. It is clear, round and spicy on the predominantly fruity and vinous nose with its delicate chalk and hazelnut flavors. On the palate this is a lithe, finessed, fresh and elegant Brut with good structure and a pure, salty-mineral and cleansing finish. The mousse is highly delicate, the whole performance almost filigreed yet well structured. This is a delicious Brut. My sample is based on the 2013 vintage that was disgorged in July 2016 with a dosage of eight grams per liter. Tasted November 2017.
This mineral-driven version offers a smoky overtone to the flavors of poached pear and Meyer lemon zest, with hints of toasted brioche and almond. Subtle, offering a finely detailed bead and a spiced finish. Drink now through 2022. 4,100 cases imported.
Clean and fragrant with red fruit, this wine’s tart cherry and strawberry flavors integrate with the soil character, which acts as a scrim over the fruit. It feels lush within the tight confines of its structure. Built for food, this will accompany roast game birds.

Bring on the bubbly! Perhaps no other wine region in the world has the name recognition of Champagne, to the point where people often mistakenly use the word "Champagne" to describe any sparkling wine. Yet only wines produced within the region can legally be called "Champagne," and to this day it produces some of the finest sparkling wines known to earth.
Country / France
The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.
Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

Always a rich non-vintage, this latest bottling doesn’t disappoint expectations. It has a rich, biscuity character, hints of toast along with pure citrus and fresh apricots. It is ripe, generous, to be drunk with food.
A graceful Champagne, with flavors of black cherry, Asian pear, toast point and salted almond dancing across the palate. Bright and buoyant, with a fine, lacy mousse and delicate notes of lime blossom, ground coffee and exotic spices playing on the finish. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Drink now. 15,000 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
Bright, almost crunchy acidity and the finely detailed mousse carry an expressive mix of poached apricot and cherry fruit, toast point, orange peel and ground ginger flavors in this firm, focused Champagne, with a graphite-laced, minerally finish. Drink now through 2022. 12,000 cases imported.
The NV Brut Special Cuvée opens with elegant, well-delineated aromas of honey, brioche, roasted nuts, orange zest, flowers and peaches, of which appear on the palate in a classy, finessed expression of the house style. This is an especially refined and delicious NV Champagne. The Special Cuvée is roughly 60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier (2004, 2003) sourced from a variety of vineyards. Bollinger adds 5–10% of reserve wines (in this case from 1995 and 1996, aged in magnums) which gives this offering its lovely complexity. The dosage is 7–9 grams per liter. This is Lot: 807704, disgorged towards the end of 2007. Anticipated maturity: 2008–2012.
At every turn of flavor, barrel-fermented base wines add opulence to this Champagne with scents of apple wood, ginger and mustard seed balancing the youthful fruit. The flavors buzz with acidity and richness, a contrast of green apple with broader notes of baked apple; the texture is creamy, the finish completely clean. The wine’s structure is substantial enough to serve with sliced, seared beef filet at a holiday party.
Light gold color with a strong mousse. Classic Bollinger aromas of poached pear, caramel apple and toasted bread, lifted by a bright hint of lime. Full and rich on the palate, held up by good acids. The notes of apple, pear and toast repeat in the mouth. Finishes with flavors of singed apples and pears.

This has aromas of grapefruit, pomegranates, and biscuits. It’s honeyed and sleek with a medium body and supple bubbles. Soft and creamy finish. Majority pinot noir, with chardonnay and meunier. Around 40% reserve wines. 10g/l dosage. Drink now. (James Suckling)
A well-cut and lacy Champagne in an elegant, aperitif style, with hints of chalk and graphite underscoring the lively Honeycrisp apple, cherry and lemon curd flavors. Offers a sleek, minerally finish. Drink now through 2021.
Red fruit character comes forward in the aroma and initial flavors, enriching the taste and filling out the smoky complexity. There’s a sweetness to that fruit balanced by a chalkiness, completely Champagne. Yellow Label is refined, super non-vintage Brut.
A full-bodied Champagne, this has been enriched by reserve wines to add depth and smoky lees intensity to its brisk, youthful elements. It’s a satisfying Brut to serve with poached prawns.
One of the most familiar of Champagnes, the Yellow Label is finely made — a fruity while structured wine. It has both fresh and fragrant fruit as well as richness, a soft, creamy texture and bright acidity. There is no sense in bottle aging here — drink this wine because of its crispness.
A firm, fresh version, with the lively bead carrying flavors of white cherry, grilled nut, orange curd and smoke. Creamy finish. Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. Drink now. (Alison Napjus)
The quality of this non-vintage blend is impressive, from it integrated Champagne scent to its creamy texture that carries aromas and flavors of green apples, white flowers, and fine minerality. It all comes together in the finish, where the opulent, pillowy texture meets the crispness of the mousse and light acidity.
Pale in color, with a strong influence of red fruit in the aromas, this is blended trio a rich style. The texture is plush, the fruit sweet yet balanced by a robust architecture so it finishes clean. A generous wine for aperitifs or to serve with roast fish.
There’s a tight, floral raspberry essence at the center of this wine, its fruitiness held by brisk, flinty acidity that keeps the finish mouthwatering. A firm wine for poached salmon.
Cliquot’s Yellow Label is consistently one of the best non-vintage Bruts from the major houses in Champagne. The current release bristles with fresh apple flavor, with the scent of heirloom apples off the tree. That flavor runs straight through the wine, savory and clean, with a firmness for boudin blanc with roast apples.
Founded by Francois Clicquot in 1772, Veuve Clicquot reached its first pinnacle of fame with the widow Nicole-Barbe Clicquot, who scouted out some impressive vineyard sites during the 19th century. Jacques Peters, who is now in charge of the estate, crafts one of Champagne’s best nonvintage Bruts by enriching the Yellow Label with up to 40 percent of older wines from the firm’s reserve stock. Nutty scents of yeast develop into chalkier mineral flavors as the wine opens with air. It has a fresh scent of narcissus to balance the more mature tones of its reserve wines. It’s rich enough for food, but also easy to enjoy on its own.
The NV Brut offers up attractive notes of smoke, tar, rich ripe pears and flowers in a medium to full-bodied style. There is a good measure of persistence, although the wine could use a little more polish on the finish. This is Lot 14009913, disgorged between December, 2007 and January, 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2008–2010.
Bright yellow-gold. Poached pear and candied citrus fruits on the nose, which shows notes of spun sugar and toffee. Sweet orchard and pit fruit flavors are slightly cloying and loose-knit, with slow-mounting spiciness. Finishes on a warm note, with decent length and a suggestion of candied orange.

Extra Brut Champagne
NV / 750 ml.
The first launch for this wine, the NV Champagne Essentiel Blanc De Noirs Extra Brut is 80% Pinot Noir with the rest Meunier and comes from sustainable grapes. It doesn’t include any reserve wine, so it’s entirely from the 2019 vintage, and moving forward, Boutillat will begin to introduce a new solera to go into this cuvée, coming from 10 different villages across the region. A bright straw hue, the wine opens to a delicate smoky lift with fresh notes of orange citrus, blackberry, and flowers. The palate is pure and fantastic, with distilled black fruit, a fresh, chalky texture, and an elegant, fluffy mouse as well as a well-rounded purity of fruit through the mid-palate. A great first vintage for this wine, it has a lot of charm now and will age gracefully over the coming 10–12 years. It’s a wonderful gateway into Blanc de Noir, a category that should be more prized. (Audrey Frick)
This has aromas of apricots, white strawberries, peach pits, almonds and pastries. Creamy and balanced, medium-bodied, with silky bubbles and a nicely savory and dry finish. Based on 2018 vintage. 44% pinot noir, 34% meunier and 22% chardonnay. 4g/L dosage. Drink now. (James Suckling)

Darker color. Lots of fruit and a creamy texture with cooked apples and cherries and strawberry undertones. Medium to full body. Delicious finish that is dry and fruity. Drink now.
Based on the Brut Reserve, with the addition of red wines largely produced in-house (from sites including Les Riceys), the latest release of Taittinger’s NV Brut Prestige Rosé is showing very well, bursting with aromas of raspberries, red berries, brioche, rose petals and blood orange. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, broad and comparatively textural, with good depth at the core and a chalky, gently phenolic and distinctly sapid finish.
Dried and macerated raspberry and cherry fruit flavors are accented by a thread of aromatic spice, smoke-tinged toasted brioche notes and chalky mineral scents in this fresh and focused rosé, with a fine, satiny mousse. Drink now through 2022. 1,800 cases imported.

NV / 750 ml.
A rich, toasty Champagne, backed by vibrant acidity and showing lovely balance. The finely textured mousse carries a range of cherry, candied ginger, toasted brioche, chalk and blood orange granita flavors. Disgorged October 2017. Drink now through 2021. 2,833 cases imported.
A blend of equal parts pinot meunier and chardonnay, with 20 percent pinot noir, this plays meunier’s rich and heady orange-blossom and strawberry notes off the crushed limestone severity of Côte des Blancs chardonnay. And yet the two merge harmoniously into a platinum-clear Champagne, hinting at fresh pear skin layered over meatier fruit. It’s a great buy at $38.

Mouthwatering acidity drives this sleek rosé Champagne, with juicy star fruit and raspberry flavors riding the lively mousse, accented by hints of pastry, orange peel, smoke and dried herb. Drink now.
Dark, vivid pink. Ripe red berries, rose oil and tangerine on the nose, plus a subtle note of toasty lees. Bitter cherry and berry skin flavors give way to softer raspberry in the middle, with a tangy blood orange nuance adding cut and lift. Packs a punch but shows very good clarity and delineation, finishing round, smooth and quite long.
Pale pink. Delicate, racy aromas of flowers and spicy red berries. Focused, even tight, with tart red fruit flavors enlivened by tangy acidity. This is one of the driest versions of this wine I can recall. Finishes brisk and clean, with a lingering impression of white peach.
Rather fruity, with scents of cherries and peaches that come together in a round, easy-to-drink style. A little simple, perhaps, but this is a clean, fresh sparkler that won’t disappoint.
