Critical Acclaim

WE92 Wine Enthusiast 9/1/2020

"Aromas of baked plum, French oak and underbrush shape the nose along with whiffs of iris. Densely concentrated, the enveloping palate features fleshy black cherry, licorice and coconut alongside, velvety, close-grained tannins and the warmth of evident alcohol. Drink 2022–2028." (92 pts.)

RP97+ Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 23rd Jul 2020

"Fruit for the Cordero di Montezemolo 2016 Barolo Enrico VI is drawn from a two-hectare parcel in Villero, in Castiglione Falletto. This subzone shows especially sharp and focused aromas in this gorgeous 2016 incarnation, and indeed, that brilliant linearity is what pops out first and foremost when you evaluate the bouquet of this iconic Barolo. Wild cherry, summer plum, white stone, limestone, cola and camphor ash emerge with balanced intensity. The Enrico VI is framed by very fine and silky tannins that add a firm backbone. This wine is tightly stitched together and ready for extra cellar time." (97+ pts.)

VN95+ Vinous Feb 2020

"The 2016 Barolo Enrico VI is bright, translucent and super-expressive. Freshly cut flowers, mint, pine, spice and sweet red cherry are all beautifully lifted. Medium in body and precise, with stunning nuance, the 2016 is a positively stellar wine that shows the more refined side of the Villero cru. Villero Barolos can be a bit tough, especially in the early going, but the 2016 Enrico VI is a super elegant and classy exception." (95+ pts.)

JS97 JamesSuckling.com Monday, December 21, 2020

"Extremely perfumed with chocolate, walnuts, hazelnuts and dried strawberries. Roses, too. Hints of chocolate. Full and complex with a gorgeous palate that’s full of flavor and structure. Better after 2024." (97 pts.)

WS92 Wine & Spirits December 1, 2020

"From a 5.4-acre plot in Castiglione Falletto’s Villero cru, this wine rested for 20 months in French oak barriques, gaining notes of carob, baking spice and cassis that weave through the rich cherry-compote flavors. Its warm, sensual profile would pair well with comfort food, like pot roast." (92 pts.)

Piedmont

Located in northwestern Italy near the Italian Alps, Piedmont is home to two of Italy's more famous wines: Barolos and Barbarescos. Each of these wines are made with the Nebbiolo grape, which is the premier red grape in the region. Other red grapes of note used in Piedmont include Barbera and Dolcetto. Among white wine grapes used in Piedmont are Moscatos, which are increasing in popularity here in the US. Piedmont's capital city Torino is also home to large productions of Vermouth, also made from Moscato.

Italy

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.
