Where It's From

District / Napa Valley

View more wines from Napa Valley

Napa Valley is California's -- and America's -- most famous and celebrated wine district. Located north of San Francisco, Napa Valley is most famous for its world-class Cabernets and Chardonnays. The region's acclaim officially took off following a 1976 tasting in Paris when renowned judges chose a Napa Chardonnay and Cabernet over top French wines made from the same grapes.

Most wineries in the region produce either a Chardonnay or a Cabernet, and usually it's both. Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel are also grown with success in Napa Valley. You'll likely recognize the names of some of the viticultural areas within Napa Valley, including St. Helena, Stag's Leap and Carneros.

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

Country / United States

View more wines from United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Features a loamy tug throughout, with steeped black currant and plum fruit rolling over the top. Ends with a mix of sage, tobacco and menthol accents. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2020 through 2028. 1,460 cases made.

Ripe currants on the nose follow through to a medium body, soft tannins and a slightly hot finish. Round-textured and fruit-forward. Blend mostly of cabernet sauvignon with some merlot and petit verdot. Drink now.

Attractive aromas of crushed berries, light chocolate and smoke follow through to a medium body, silky tannins and a fruity finish. Subtle for Napa. Drink or hold.
RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2016
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. The wine is soft, round, juicy, very much a 2014 in a front-end-loaded style, with a dense ruby/purple color, loads of fruit, not a lot of complexity, but savory, round and consumer friendly. Drink it over the next decade.

Dark plums, mulberries, cloves and earthy undertones. It’s full-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Full and fruity with structure and freshness on the palate. Long finish. Very polished. Drink in 2023.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 28, 2023
Ripe but fresh, this lets alluring boysenberry and mulberry notes stretch out slowly, with a mix of singed apple wood and anise playing a supporting role. Reveals light bramble and violet hints that peek in on the well-fruited finish. Shows good embedded energy. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2023 through 2035. 810 cases made.
