Critical Acclaim

WE94 Wine Enthusiast 7/1/2021

"Silky red fruit and plum dot the landscape of this powerfully soft and velvety wine. Blended with 23% Merlot and 1% each of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, it exudes classic structure, integrated oak and floral beauty, finishing on a fig note. Enjoy from 2028–2032." (94 pts.)

RP91 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 30th Nov 2020

"A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and notes of baked black cherries, stewed plums and black currant jelly plus touches of garrigue, black olives and Provence herbs. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers lovely poise and expression with plenty of crunchy black fruit and a grainy texture, finishing with a lively lift." (91 pts.)

JD91 Jeb Dunnuck January 27, 2021

"Checking in as 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Stages Leap District sports a dense purple color as well as complex notes of both red and black fruits, new leather, chocolate, and loamy earth. It’s medium to full-bodied, elegant, and nicely textured on the palate, with integrated tannins and a great finish." (91 pts.)

VN92 Vinous Jan 2021

"The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon SLD Estate is rich, ample and so inviting. This creamy, expressive Cabernet is sure to delight readers pretty much upon release. It captures all the charm of the vintage in its gracious personality. Hints of spice, tobacco, dried herbs and mint linger." (92 pts.)

Napa Valley

Napa Valley is California's -- and America's -- most famous and celebrated wine district. Located north of San Francisco, Napa Valley is most famous for its world-class Cabernets and Chardonnays. The region's acclaim officially took off following a 1976 tasting in Paris when renowned judges chose a Napa Chardonnay and Cabernet over top French wines made from the same grapes.

Most wineries in the region produce either a Chardonnay or a Cabernet, and usually it's both. Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel are also grown with success in Napa Valley. You'll likely recognize the names of some of the viticultural areas within Napa Valley, including St. Helena, Stag's Leap and Carneros.

California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.
